I second this. Additionally, I no longer field constant requests to fill my days off with: interviews, symposiums, committees, presentations, papers, you name it. And yes, far fewer emails.
Deep thoughts on leaving academics… The amount of silly and redundant emails I receive has dramatically decreased since leaving academics. This is nice.

Good for these guys for taking action. Don’t care who you are or what your cause is. But the minute you tear down the US Flag and replace it with a foreign one on US soil, your time is up.

I support the constitutionally protected right to freedom of peaceful assembly. This is true regardless of the issue and whether I agree with it. I don’t support trespassing, violence, vandalism, or lawlessness. This is also true regardless of the root issue.
If your peaceful protest has crossed into breaking the law, the police may have to forcibly remove you. "But I'm a student!" That's great. We respect your thirst for knowledge. "But I'm a professor!" Respect. I hear that PhD dissertation is a bear. But now you're coming with us.

I totally understand that being a member of the royal family means they give up most of their privacy. But the obsession over Kate’s recovery after surgery really bothers me as a surgeon. I wish society could just give her a few months of privacy to convalesce in peace.
