This PCGS AU53 Walking Liberty Half Dollar was double-struck, covering up the date, something that would normally leave a coin ungradeable. However, the S mintmark has a unique knob style used for coins struck in 1945 to 1946, making it possible for PCGS to label it 19XX.

Maryland Commemorative Half Dollars typically come weakly struck due to their flat design. High-grade examples with strong strikes, such as this PCGS MS66 coin, have therefore become more desirable for collectors.

This Mint Error Monday takes us to Canadian coinage, featuring this PCGS AU53 nickel with a 100% split planchet. This error caused its reverse to break away sometime after striking. Likely caused by improper annealing or a faulty metal mix, it’s a rare error on a beautiful coin.

This $100 bill tried to fix a mistake, but became one itself. Star notes are printed to replace damaged bills, identified by a star at the end of the serial number. But this note suffered a cutting error, making it both a replacement and a misprint – and even more collectible.
