The fascinating thing about moltbook over the last 18 hours hasn’t been the forum itself, it’s been watching very clever people so far down the rabbit hole they convince themselves they are watching the apocalypse rather than performance and simulacra.

BRITAIN NEEDS A GAULLIST LEADER by Paul Ovenden @OvePM The acute threat of American tariffs disappeared as quickly as it had emerged. But the temptation to think we will return to normalcy ignores reality. Attitudes to Schengen will harden until Europe’s external borders mean

Fantastic new issue of the @NewStatesman out now! Great, penetrating essay on Britain’s way forward by @OvePM. EXC interview with the Spanish PM @sanchezcastejon setting out an alternative socialist future. And @PronouncedAlva on the fallout from Starmer’s Burnham battle.

My point isn’t about the merits or otherwise of the Chagos deal - it’s that you can criticise your own side as much you want, but also feel no outsider has the right to do so. Standard gut feeling of most Brits, something right wingers inherently understood until recently.

Ultimately, Trump will damage conservatives and populists in the UK and Europe, lots of whom seem to have had their brains melted into thinking the average Brit relishes seeing outsiders criticise their country as much as they do. Many such cases.

Today, we honour those who gave their lives so we could live in freedom. Too many are still paying the ultimate price today. I told President @ZelenskyyUa that if there is a change of government, there will be no change in Britain’s support for Ukraine.
