Commercializing Earth science data can work, but ONLY IF the govt puts its full weight behind negotiations & insists on fully open licensing of the bought data. NASA is often a push over on data negotiations, but it must be firm or itāll be worse than non-commercial status quo.
@mouthofmorrison Demanding open licensing for government paid for data is the only way this works. It is essential.
