In Uganda, the only way to become an Optometrist is to enroll in the 4-year Bachelor of Optometry program at Makerere which covers:.✔️ Anatomy & physiology.✔️ Optics.✔️ Pharmacology.✔️ Clinical work.✔️ Public health and research.

Optometrists do more than refraction. They detect diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, keratoconus, and more eye conditions that can cause irreversible blindness if missed. They rehabilitate people with low vision greatly improving their quality of life.
