We are working on relocation supply requests from the residents (which mostly include large tarps, tents, and storage bins.).You can donate to the supply fund at or via Venmo @/OpenTableNash and put “Old Tent City” in the donation line. (3/4).

Additionally, Metro agencies are planning to coordinate a camp clean up, provide trash bags, and install 5 dumpsters on a trial basis!.Outreach workers will continue to work with people on the housing process and OHS will host a resource fair. (2/4).

UPDATE: Monday morning, the Mayor’s Office responded to the residents’ requests with some good news!.The Mayor is granting an additional extension. The new demolition date is 10/15. Though the residents wanted more time, this still provides enough for them to move. (1/4).

We also acknowledge that when a city doesn’t have enough housing available for everyone in need, it forces people to live in unsafe conditions. Further displacement often causes more harm. We believe that everyone deserves access to safe, dignified, and affordable housing.

We are committed to trauma informed care and are continuing to amplify the residents’ ask for more time so they can dismantle their homes themselves and have sufficient time to relocate. One two story structure was built over the course of 3 years.

The residents are aware of safety concerns with some of the structures at the camp that Metro is citing to justify demolition. Still, we know that displacing a person from their home with no alternative option is harmful.

We’re participating in the working group and ensured that a resident had a place at the table as well. The new demolition is set for 9/25 and now includes 4 additional structures. The camp is not slated for closure at this time, but a new $70 million park is planned for the site.

After pushback from advocates last week, Mayor Freddie O’Connell delayed the September 16th demolition of 6 structures at Tent City for 10 days. He also convened a working group with representatives from several Metro departments and nonprofits.

UPDATE: Demolition has been delayed by 10 days. The Mayor’s Office formed a working group to address the situation with various Metro agencies and social service representatives, including OTN and a resident. 9/25 is the new demolition day. Stay tuned for specific asks!.

Evidence suggests that displacing people with nowhere else to go further exacerbates mental and physical health conditions, contributes to premature mortality, makes it more difficult to maintain contact with outreach workers, and erodes willingness to engage with resources.
