In the past few years, our community has moved steadily away from this platform; we’ve also noticed an increase in bots and a decrease in overall engagement. Given the small size of our team, we want to prioritize the platforms which enable us to increase the impact of our work.

As #ClimateChange intensifies, climate + env. info will only become more valuable + necessary—for collective + individual use. Preventing enclosure would require huge shifts in public + private interactions, but may effectively + equitably support proactive climate planning.

3⃣ Longer term, agencies like @NOAA could consider policy measures to ensure critical climate data don't get enclosed by corporations—e.g., CC-BY-SA licensing for agency data. FST uses these open datasets, then closes them through their analysis.

2⃣State-level solutions + climate models can be developed. CA is investing in its own catastrophe models using wildfire data to identify homes + properties at risk. Insurance modeling is opaque; public models can enable fair + accurate insurance rates.

1⃣@FEMA + @NOAA datasets and systems need investment to be better used at the local, state + fed level. By investing in data, analysis + infrastructures at the agency level, it’s possible to empower engineers, planners + policymakers to understand and communicate climate risk.

Environmental + climate data should be a public good, used for both individual and collective benefit. Democratizing data means that everyone has access to it. This tool is a step in the right direction, but there are 2 ways that data like this could be more open + democratic:.

Homebuyers + renters might not want to do their own #climate analysis, but the inability for *anyone* to do so means that these models cannot be validated. App users must trust the soundness of these projections, which could impact neighborhoods + communities alike.
