Twenty years ago, on June 13th, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) took effect after unanimous approval from all parties of the Legislature. This landmark legislation set 2025, as the target year for achieving accessibility in Ontario.

Developing hiring practices and policies for Indigenous-specific positions should include a process to confirm claims of Indigenous identity and must be grounded in human rights-based approaches that uphold the right of Indigenous peoples to self-determination.
