@ysabelgerrard or @SuayOzkula... do you have any recommendations? (And hello btw!) I did some exploring of obvious routes (Lupton, Marres, boyd, Marwick...) but couldn't find anything. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm looking for examples of literature about Participatory Action Research (PAR) and digital methods with children and young people (especially primary e.g. 5-11 years). Any relevant input or recommendations would be welcomed. #digitalsociology #research #par

Just discovered the ‘Rename it’ plugin for Sketch and already wondering how I haven’t gone looking for it before. For repetitive layouts or diagrams/dataviz with a layer name schema, it’s a mega timesaver.

During a recent project designing an automated voice service experience I was able to explore what approaches and methods are available to designers to create better voice experiences. https://t.co/FYfOtwoUQX #voice #ssml #ux #tts #design

When a hateful racist message relies almost entirely on its visual impact, why does almost every media outlet run with a photo showing the message? We all know what plane banners look like. More spineless, formulaic, pro-establishment UK media coverage.

A book that I’d like someone else to produce: T-shirt designs that were misinterpreted over Zoom #projectsididntfinish #projectsididntevenstart

Bought a React book. Skim read initial chapters. Ignored basic setup and used create-react-app instead. Many chapters later, got in a pickle setting up Webpack. Realised CRA already uses Webpack. Reminds self why he’s not a real developer. 🤦‍♂️

Thoroughly interesting dataviz and AI discussion as usual from ⁦@datastories⁩, at the crossover between human and technological. I observe myself feeling that ‘fairness’ is a human judgement, whereas machines should be ‘equitable’.

Interesting for both User Researchers and Digital Sociologists - how social work can play a role in interpreting language and context on social media. “5 Questions on Data and Context with Desmond Patton” by @kanarinka https://t.co/CUfrSl88tz

Great job on the Font Files package @jordandobson. 👏 For @framer prototypers, I'd regard this as an almost essential package. https://t.co/Fx4I5tlnU6 #framer

Yesterday’s sad landmark and surrounding discussions with people who’s opinions and knowledge I respect has reinvigorated my desire to actively explore just how broken democracy really is, and how ill-equipped we are to recognise it.

It’s not about personalities, it’s about parties and policies. If you care about a fairer society, public services, the environment, education, paying fair taxes or frankly just being a better person in society, it’s simple... vote Labour on Thursday.

Wow. So that was interesting. Despite having tickets for both the 6.33pm and 8.03pm, @LNER decided to get Transport Police involved and eject me from the 7.33pm train at Stevenage with LOTS of seats. Is there no common sense or care of duty for passengers?

Over 20 years of business commuting from Leeds to London I must’ve easily done 100 journeys - e.g. spent £10,000. I’m 2 mins late for the 6.33pm on an Advance Single £60 ticket yet @LNER won’t allow me to board the 7.33pm which has spaces. How is this fair?

Or maybe “We’ll never store data that is not essential, will always be completely transparent with how your data is used and will show you every decision your data affected”.

Inspired by someone’s comment that “their code of ethics wouldn’t even fit on a rizla”... wouldn’t it be a nice objective for all companies to have a code of ethics or T&Cs that DO fit on a rizla? #digitalsociology

I haven’t read the paper yet but this coverage of algorithmic discrimination is so important. Without greater understanding and transparency of algorithmic decisioning systems, we have no chance of actual accountability.

An interesting day of self-reflection regarding digitised life... after only 24 hours, I'm already loving my new robot vacuum. I always said I'd never have a (human) cleaner but apparently I'm OK with robots doing the jobs I don't want to? Is that OK? Where does that end?

An excellent and tangible explanation of how Facebook pages about cute dogs or God are being used to manipulate our supposed democracy through strategic Facebook campaigns, only affordable by the powerful self-serving elite. #popularinfo
