We need a Mayor that prioritizes safety & affordability as we move through the city whether walking, biking, using transit, or driving. I'll remove the fences that block our public spaces and implement nation-leading, visionary policies like the City’s Transportation Action Plan.

I will build on programs like the Vibrant Storefronts initiative and expand the City’s role as a facilitator of new business formation by partnering with owners of neglected or under-utilized commercial spaces in key districts such as Uptown and Downtown.

Investing in our city requires creative solutions like a commercial vacancy tax to address vacant storefronts and a land value tax to incentivize development. My plan for flourishing commercial corridors make the City an active partner in building a vibrant local economy.

As Minneapolis Mayor, I will protect taxpayer dollars by opposing unaffordable direct subsidies & property tax exemptions for private, for-profit facilities like stadiums, arenas, and conventions centers. Instead, we need to invest in the City we love. 🧵

While Mayor Frey promises to enact the reforms outlined in the federal consent decree without federal oversight, when presented with the opportunity to have both the federal & state consent decrees overseen by the MN Department of Human Rights, he balked.

Last week, I laid out my vision for public safety – a vision that promises implementation of both consent decrees & invests in solutions that supplement traditional policing so that the Minneapolis Police Department can focus on violent crime that detracts from community safety.

The decision to elevate Hanneman tells our community that the murder of Amir Locke is not only acceptable, but representative of the culture the MPD is unwilling to change. This is the wrong message. Our community deserves a leader who will commit to seriously reforming the MPD.

Derek Chauvin was a trainer for MPD after a litany of harms perpetuated against our communities. His position allowed him to more deeply institutionalize a culture that resulted in the murder of George Floyd.

Sgt. Hanneman shot and killed Amir Locke within 9 seconds of busting down his front door. Choosing him as the Minneapolis Police Department’s trainer is a betrayal of the very communities Mayor Frey and the MPD say they want to build trust with. 🧵.
