Ok, so, there was 13 ejections.
From Australia: Sobey, Goulding, Maker, Kickert.
9 Filipino players were ejected.
The game continues. The Philippines have 3 players. Australia has 8. We're watching 5 on 3, right now.
So, I’m not in a position to reveal Ben Simmons’ NBA 2K19 player rating, but I was in the room when it was announced yesterday.
Here’s Ben’s off-camera reaction 😂😂
With 37 points, Aron Baynes now holds the record for the most points scored by an Australian in a single NBA game. He’s 9/14 from three-point land.
The previous record was 34 (Simmons, Mills).
LaMelo Ball just dropped his first triple-double as a pro, and it was a monster.
32 points (11/20 FG, 4/7 3pt).
11 rebounds.
13 assists.
He had just 2 TOV in 40 minutes, in an OT win. The 18-year-old put on a hell of a show.
19-year-old
@JoshGiddey
's first double-double: 18 PTS & 10 AST
LeBron is the only player in NBA history to record 10 AST at an earlier age (18). H/T

Big, big fan of the Australian Boomers’ bench joining the ovation for Luis Scola, who just checked out of the game for the final time in his fifth Olympic Games.
Josh Green is eligible to sign a rookie scale extension with the Dallas Mavericks: “I hope it happens,” he told ESPN. “I want to be in Dallas… To think I could be in Dallas long-term would be amazing."
Full story from my wide-ranging chat with Green:
Patty Mills is spending All-Star Weekend in NSW, helping those who’ve been affected by the bushfires, while continuing his work with remote Indigenous communities. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better person in the global sports community.
Today was heavy. ⠀⠀
We visited three country towns in New South Wales, massively effected by the wildfires. ⠀⠀
In Mogo, a small heritage town on the South Coast of NSW, we gave back to locals who have lost their homes, businesses and schools.
I guess this is a good time to throw out there that my time at ESPN Australia, and as a journalist, has come to an end for now. I’m taking on an opportunity in a different area within the Australian basketball space, so it’s time for a change. Really excited for what’s next ✌🏼
Didi Louzada has left the Sydney Kings and is finalizing a multi-year deal with the New Orleans Pelicans, league sources told ESPN. New story with

Josh Giddey’s recent stretch is getting ridiculous: 28 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists in a W over the Nets tonight.
He’s averaging 20.3 ppg, 7.8 rpg, and 6.1 apg over his last 10; looking like maybe the best sophomore in the NBA. OKC is 1.5 games out of 6th in the West.
Inbox: LaMelo Ball will donate 1 month of his NBL salary to help victims of the bushfires.
“It’s sad to see what is happening...” Ball said. “People have lost their homes and everything they own. My parents taught me to help out wherever I can, so this is my way of helping out.”
I have life news. Today was my final day at Fox Sports.
It’s been an incredible 4 and a half years, around some pretty amazing colleagues. Thank you to everyone for reading and watching my work; it’s honestly been a real privilege.
On to the next one. My DMs are open ✌🏼
Aron Baynes might have just had the best game of his career, in the Suns' win over the Warriors.
24 points.
12 rebounds.
7 assists.
3 blocks.
...in just 28 minutes. Wild.
Ben Simmons' averages, over his first three postseason games:
20.0 ppg (48.8% FG, 75% FT)
10.0 rpg.
9.7 apg.
2.0 spg.
It's his first playoffs. He's a rookie.
The Australian Boomers defeat Slovenia 107-93 to win bronze at the Tokyo Olympics; their first medal at a major international tournament. Patty Mills put the team on his back: 42 points. It wasn’t the goal of gold; still, it’s a well-earned, historic consolation for the program.
Josh Giddey, in the biggest game of his career: 31 points, 9 rebounds, and 10 assists, lifting the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 123-118 win over the Pelicans to progress in the Play-In Tournament. Incredible.
Patty Mills’ reaction to Ben Simmons’ Olympic withdrawal is more powerful when you watch him deliver it. A really great example of effective leadership.
Andrew Bogut says there are no NBA outs in his deal. No Euro outs, either. He’s committed to the Sydney Kings for two years, and says he’s retired from the NBA.
Patty Mills wasn't going to go down guessing: 42 points (15/31 FG, 4/15 3pt) and 9 assists to seal the Boomers program's first ever medal. He carried this group through Tokyo, and capped the tournament off with his best ever performance in the green and gold. Legacy-defining.

The Adelaide 36ers just became the first NBL team to win an

preseason game, beating the Phoenix Suns 134-124. The 36ers shot 24/43 (55.8%) from behind the 3pt line.
Makur Maker, a 5-star big out of Australia, just committed to Howard University.
The younger cousin of Thon is wildly talented, and breaking new ground by choosing a historically black college; the most decorated prospect to commit to an HBCU since Ben Wallace (Virginia Union).
I was the 1st to announce my visit to Howard & other started to dream “what if”. I need to make the HBCU movement real so that others will follow. I hope I inspire guys like Mikey Williams to join me on this journey. I am committing to Howard U & coach Kenny Blakeney

Danté Exum in the Mavericks’ win vs the Lakers today: 26 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. He made a new career-high 7 three-pointers (7/9 3pt).
In 4 games as a starter for the Mavs - all wins - Exum is averaging 17.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg, and 5.8 apg. He’s playing the best basketball…
The Australian Boomers vs Brazil game on Wednesday, Aug. 16 - originally scheduled for 7:45pm (AEST) - has been moved forward to 5:30pm, a Basketball Australia spokesperson confirmed to ESPN tonight. The change was made to avoid a clash with the Matildas vs England match at 8pm.
Devin Booker shot 1/7 from the field when guarded by Dyson Daniels. The Australian rookie was the primary defender on Booker - who was held to 14 points (5/17 FG) against a switchy-Pelicans team - in a win over the Suns today.
Here it is. Patty Mills, alongside Cate Campbell, just led Team Australia out at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics. Mills is Australia’s first ever Indigenous flagbearer at an Olympic Games.
Andrew Gaze perfectly summed up the context that’s made this bronze medal such a significant moment for the Australian Boomers, and Australian basketball. Drewy is one of Australia’s great broadcasters, so there’s no-one better to express that history to the nation.
This is quite cool, and something I don’t think I’ve seen before. Biwali Bayles, an Indigenous-Australian guard entering his freshman year at Hawaii, posed with an Aboriginal flag during the team’s pre-season photoshoot; posing with just an Australian flag is typically the trend.
I managed to get my hands on this version of

Every sports team should note how
@usabasketball
handles the media. They put 30 mins on the clock, and made everyone - coaches and players - available. We could gather in a scrum, or grab guys for one-on-ones. We’re all adults. We get the story; they get exposure. Much respect.
Josh Giddey’s last 5 games:
21-10-3
20-9-2
25-5-5
16-5-4
20-5-9, tonight
He’s up to 34.9% (3.2 3PA) from 3 on the season, up from 26.3% in his rookie season.
The price of an NBA League Pass Core annual package for the 2022-23 season is dropping from $299.99 (AUD) to $154.99 for Australian consumers, a league source told ESPN. That’s a 48% decrease. The monthly package is dropping from $39.99 to $21.99 (a 45% price drop).
After 35 straight days on the Australian Boomers beat - starting in Perth, and finishing up in Beijing - I just filed my final story. It’s finally time to get the wheels up to Sydney. Appreciate everyone who followed along with my

Ben Simmons is a rookie point guard, who just led his team to two postseason road wins against a top-10 defensive team. Just a reminder that that's not normal, at all.

Important quote from Patty Mills, via BA: “Now that we’ve made it over the hill, this is the standard now of Australian men’s basketball and we take nothing less. We say ‘gold vibes only’ is the standard and we won’t accept anything less on the court or off the court."
Patty Mills has been named one of Australia’s two flagbearers for the Opening Ceremony of the Tokyo Olympic Games. He’ll join Cate Campbell as captain of the Australian Olympic Team.
Sources: This afternoon, the NBL will announce that a Tasmania franchise will be league’s 10th team. It will officially join the NBL for the 2021-22 season.
Xavier Cooks - the Australian Boomers and former Washington Wizards forward - has signed with the Chiba Jets in Japan’s B League, multiple sources told ESPN.
This was an underrated play by Jonah Bolden. How many 6’10 guys in the NBA can make this swing pass on the move? I’ve said it from the start: Bolden’s IQ and ability to pass the ball are the best parts of his game.
The Australian Boomers’ squad has been cut down to 13.

Can’t believe what I just saw. Nigeria beat Team USA 90-87 in a pre-Olympic exhibition in Vegas. Both teams took this game seriously; it was a legitimately competitive contest. Nigeria hit 21 (!) threes. It goes without saying, but this is a giant moment for African basketball.
Xavier Cooks has agreed to a new three-year deal with the Sydney Kings, sources told ESPN, in what is the largest deal in NBL history. Details on

As of this evening, every Australian Boomers player and official had returned a negative COVID-19 test, multiple sources told ESPN. The Boomers played Team USA on Tuesday in Las Vegas; since that game, the USA’s Bradley Beal has entered health and safety protocols.
Well, this is nice. Appreciate the NBL for the award; covering the league is fun and challenging, and just really rewarding. Thanks to everyone who’s read/watched/listened to my work with
@ESPNAusNZ
this past year.
Josh Green's minutes in that 3rd Q were terrific. He picks up full court better than anyone else on this Boomers team, and that's really putting a lot of pressure on Nigeria's lead guards. Nigeria isn't getting into its stuff until after around 10 seconds into the shot-clock.
Cameron Oliver has agreed to a 10-day contract with the Houston Rockets, league sources told ESPN. He’s expected to suit up for the Rockets’ final four games of the season; the big-man averaged 17.3 ppg & 10.0 rpg in Australia’s NBL for the Cairns Taipans.
This is the most comfortable I’ve seen LaMelo Ball, maybe ever. His shot selection over preseason has been mostly promising, so that’s an important bit of growth already.
South Sudan has qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics, joining France and Australia. It’s, once again, thanks to a New Zealand result: the Tall Blacks defeated Egypt, so South Sudan - the world’s youngest country, with a considerable NBL presence - wins the automatic African bid.
The final 12-man Australian Boomers team for the 2023 FIBA World Cup has just officially been finalised.

Dejan Vasiljevic will play for the Washington Wizards in the 2023 NBA Summer League, sources told ESPN. 6’3 Australian combo guard, coming off back-to-back titles with the Sydney Kings; 38.8% career 3pt shooter (6.0 3PA) in the NBL.
The Australian Boomers defeat Team USA 91-83 to move to 2-0 at the pre-Olympic exhibition game circuit in Las Vegas. USA drops to 0-2. Immaculate second half defence from Australia.
Draft day thought: it’s so pleasantly surprising how the Australian basketball community has rallied around Josh Giddey. Legends of the game, players, fans, other NBL teams, whatever; the tall poppying has been minimal, almost non-existent. It’s honestly such an important shift.
The NBL and Japan’s B.LEAGUE have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding, with the two leagues set to work more closely to promote the growth of the sport and their respective competitions.
The agreement will explore:
- The feasibility of Japanese BLG teams competing in…
Jock Landale is really carving out his role on this Phoenix Suns roster; he had 9 points and 10 rebounds, in 17 minutes off the bench vs the Clippers tonight. The backup centre spot is his for a Suns team that was in need of a high-IQ, high-motor, stretch guy at that position.
Quick note: Instead of complaining about the lack of Boomers coverage from the mainstream media (yes, it *obviously* warrants more coverage), support the Australian journos who’ve been in China for the entire
