Today - at 11 a.m. - is the monthly, countywide outdoor warning system (siren) test. It was rescheduled from last week to this week due to weather. AND, we (Olathe) will also do a SECOND, manual test of the sirens! So, at 11:15 a.m., the sirens will again sound. #WeeWoo

What’s the difference between the two tests? Well, basically the countywide test is initiated by the county. And, the second test will be done by us – the fire department – when our division chief of emergency management pushes the button.

In Olathe, firefighters battled two house fires within 18 minutes of each other. The first at 1400 E Loula and the second at 127 N Blake. It only took firefighters about 10 minutes to control both fires. Damage to the homes was significant.

Hero Day started in 2016. It's a free program for young women ages 13 to 23. Alongside Olathe firefighters, participants put on firefighter gear, crawled through tight spaces, rappelled from a building, sprayed a fire hose, talked about emergency medical services and more.
