The fact that *any* Republicans are talking themselves into the idea that it’s legitimate for county election boards or state legislatures to overturn the results of an election is an incredibly dark development. Our democracy is in danger from a lot more than Trump.

There are all kinds of normally apolitical officials—administrators, county electon boards, etc.—who carry out the normally apolitical job of certifying election results. Trump has politicized them, just like he did with the CDC and the pandemic, and it’s a serious problem.

Just a reminder that the Biden-Harris team is being denied access to COVID data because a Trump official, @GSAEmily , is refusing to certify that they are the "apparent successful candidates."

The government needs experts who can help it make policy based on the facts. Trump has replaced them with cronies who make policy based on what’s good for Trump. It’s a threat to our health, a threat to our safety, a threat to the rule of law, a threat to democracy.

@ObsoleteDogma The real issue is that people sank low enough to vote for a man as foul as Trump. They know he pays off prostitutes/advocates sexually assaulting women/demeans soldiers/mocks the disabled/has committed financial fraud for 40 years. And they like that.

Revised. Upgrading my alarum from “note of caution” to URGENT latent threat. “Mr. Trump’s refusal to concede is no mere “embarrassment” or narcissistic inability to “get over it”. The threat needs to be headed off entirely, now.“

@ObsoleteDogma Interesting that they have not considered that the situation might be reversed in the future....with Democratic party controlled legislatures doing what they want to do now.

@ObsoleteDogma The @GOP know that this may well be there last sniff of power for a decade. They'll lie and cheat and subvert democracy to hold onto power.

@ObsoleteDogma The fact that state legislatures can constitutionally overturn their state's presidential election results makes me genuinely surprised this hasn't happened yet.
