Meanwhile, the Sudanese government says it is investigating accusations of chemical weapons use levelled against both the army and the RSF. The two incidents near al-Jaili in September 2024 are the only cases we could independently verify.

This investigation was mentioned last week by the American delegation during a meeting of the @OPCW, the international body responsible for implementing the Chemical Weapons Convention. https://t.co/2wIFI3KGKF
The Government of Sudan must immediately acknowledge its violations, cease any further use of chemical weapons, and fully cooperate with the @OPCW to address these violations. Watch the United States' intervention:

So, was chlorine imported to Sudan by Ports Engineering as part of its military supply business to be used as chemical weapons? Or for use in the purification of drinking water? As of now, it is impossible to determine. 13/17

These imports are nothing surprising: Ports Engineering has links with the Sudanese army. Run by a colonel in the Sudanese army, the firm partnered with the Giad group, which has been sanctioned numerous times for its activities threatening “peace and security in Sudan.” 12/17

Commercial data from @C4ADS indicates that Ports Engineering imported goods from Karmetal, a Turkish munitions manufacturer, in early 2024. The Turkish manufacturer told FRANCE 24 these shipments didn’t include military material but “empty metal boxes” and “springs”. 10/17
