Just curious. Has Splatoon 3 ever had similar events in the past with banners handed out by articles?

No. They only added this feature in 5.0.0.
However, Splatoon 2 had plenty of items (gear, tickets, chunks) distributed this way.

How do I find the Japanese news channel? It doesn't come up when I search "Splatoon", so I assume I have to search something in Japanese?
