What's in your valve box? In the past I found them completely full to of soil from the activity of ants. Frogs and newts are also common finds. Also sometimes find mice. To avoid ensure the valve box is well sealed with a lid with no holes as mice have a habit of chewing cables.

England had 3rd wettest March on record, 119.2mm of rain (plus 104% of average.) Checking drains over winter, particularly ditches they flow into for blockages with suitable aeration of turf surfaces can lessen the impact (drains can't help if the water can't reach/leave them.)

Employer fined 8k when dumper overturned & driver badly injured. Not correctly trained. Dumper seat was covered with fertiliser bag so seatbelt could not be worn. Law says seat belt must be worn if roll bar fitted. Staff must be trained to use equipment. https://t.co/jCXOQdgEnv

Frost damage occurs when ice crystals that form in pant cells puncture the cell wall due to traffic (effect is similar to a bruise on skin) on thawing damaged areas are susceptible to fungal pathogens. Cosmetic damage is also be notable. Trolley bans are a must in such conditions

At Royal Ascot GC the other day and they have a very tame wild Robin who visits. He has a wash and comes into dry on their radiator, its a bit hot so he has to hop about now and again. He then has a few crumbs for breakfast. Any other clubs get wild visitor?

Really pleased to see David Golding get a life time achievement award & to see it noted in so many places. The work David did and indeed Fiona (who still does) behind the scenes with regard to GK training is worthy of such recognition. Well done old pal. https://t.co/uKHXYVWlUC

How to keep staff? Pay as much as you can (the cost of replacement can be high in time and money) Let people have a role in what goes on. Show you respect and appreciate your staff. Offer the ability to grown (training, courses etc) Be flexible if you can on working hours.

Avoid Dollar spot this year, it likes warm days, cool nights, & heavy dews. Worse in dry soils with low nitrogen fertility. Low N will also reduce recovery. To avoid, keep soil moist, remove dew, keep N rates up. Longer term overseed with newer less susceptible turf cultivars.

In summer we get many calls and questions from members of the public with bees in their houses, outbuildings and gardens but our volunteer members are only able to help in cases of swarms of honey...

You may know about this, seen GKs using (full fat) lemonade to help plugs on greens repair faster. I guess the liquid helps & sugar will encourage roots to seek N in soil as sugar increases soil bacteria who reduce N in soil area. Not sure if scientific basis is strong though.

The value of checking trees? This one split in a sudden gust 50 yards from us as I was walking course with a student, the inside was rotten, it would have fallen on to pathway if not hooked up on nearby trees. Again risks of trees and windy conditions.
