Much of the furniture and lighting in the house was designed by Rech and Carstens . The house contains an eclectic mix of furniture, with materials chosen for their tactile qualities and forms inspired by the African landscape and nature.

This represents my vision of African cities of the future. Buildings made from bio-based materials, trams for public transport, electric bicycles, pedestrian walkways, green spaces, and sponge pavements to prevent flooding.
I am the kind of architect who believes that it is not necessary to build in an anarchic manner to solve our problems. Instead, we need to analyse our painful problems in construction and rethink our cities, draw up guidelines to follow and adjust them over time .

As a child, I naïvely thought that designing sustainable buildings could extend human life expectancy. I wasn’t entirely wrong ,one of the most striking things about the centenarians in the traditional African cities I visited is how strong and youthful they still appear
