Much of the furniture and lighting in the house was designed by Rech and Carstens . The house contains an eclectic mix of furniture, with materials chosen for their tactile qualities and forms inspired by the African landscape and nature.

The garden has been left in its wild state: exotic plants have been removed and native trees and bushes planted. The birds are numerous: ibis, hagedash, tchitrec of paradise, owls and eagles.

It was originally going to be one room, a simple cottage in the forest, infiuenced by site more than anything else, and it grew from there. The home's layout is that of a veritable mountaintop village, with kitchen, dining room and living rooms.

Everything in Ghana is priced two or three times higher, which is why poverty is so high disposable income is very low. Even food. GH₵80 can’t buy you a pizza 🍕 in Ghana, but if you convert that same amount into South African rand, it can buy you a large pizza with change

As a child, I naïvely thought that designing sustainable buildings could extend human life expectancy. I wasn’t entirely wrong ,one of the most striking things about the centenarians in the traditional African cities I visited is how strong and youthful they still appear
