Africa's market is often presented just as its map....to look smaller than it is....and, much worse, some of the continent's elite fail to recognise that the small does not each become big by following the mighty ...but by bonding together to reveal collective size and potential.

Since mordernisation is unstoppable, we must always adjust our ways without losing cultural identity..... if we stick to outdated practices because those who derive power from culture want to maintain the pomposity acquired from ancient times, we will soon lose our very identity.

A high office comes with the risk of becoming ignorant.....many who look up to you assume you know and subordinates may be afraid to speak.....so they listen attentively as you start teaching the very people from whom you are to learn and watch as you repeat avoidable mistakes.

The biggest barriers to our progress come not from those who don't want us to rise....but from our own divided front that makes each of us look up to those who look down on all of us....and from our own disempowered minds that leads us to keep searching for what we already have.

An educated but ill informed person is a danger to society.... intelligence leads him to rely solely on logic....and though he leads many, he neither listens to the wisdom of his own quiet inner voice nor the loud counsel of those who made the same mistakes he is about to repeat.

We can get the coffee and pay for groceries without interacting with humans.... even the "thank you for shopping" now comes from a machine.....will a day come when our major concern at the shop will shift from poor customer service to lack of humans to talk to?....just wondering

Three lessons I learnt from Cameroon: 1. It is easier to keep going than learning to let go. 2. Power is often sought not for the future but to entrench the past. 3. Often, staying in power is not as important to the leader as those who benefit from keeping the leader in power.

Africa's paradox- we are resource-rich yet the "poorest continent"; have large arable lands, lots of food gets rotten after harvest yet no "food security"; we are 1.4 billion people yet our market is "small" ...is our struggle against poverty or about how to handle the abundance?

Of what importance is wisdom if it gives no guidance on avoiding folly; or of power that does not empower others; or intelligence if it allows ignorance to thrive or abundance if scarcity multiplies......without sharing relevance vanishes and the noise becomes a tinkling cymbal.

If you are one of us who believed that Africa's leaders were going to have a united front and make 2021-2030 Africa's Decade....it is time to remind ourselves that we are about 3 months away from the end of the first half of the decade- does it look like Africa's Decade so far?

"Gut feeling" ideas often make the strategic difference....but as AI brings about more "data driven" decisions, gut feelings may be downplayed ....much worse, majority will remain entrenched in mainstream thinking and will neither track the data nor detect that inner voice. Yea

Conventions keep societies stable, but where conventions emanate only from traditions and ignore what is right and progressive, the society retrogresses and eventually becomes unstable ....from outdated conventions and the conventional thinking that previously kept it stable. Yep

To some, all things are possible-they dream, act, and persist... they are not deterred by 'lack of resources', and they do not confuse ownership with resourcefulness... yea, ownership gives title, but a resourceful mindset gives the ability to utilise all legitimate resources.

... this can lead to complacency... advantage is fleeting and can be eroded, lost, or created....with strategic action, the disadvantaged often gain advantage over those with comparative advantage... perhaps Goliath also had this mindset 3000 years ago in that fight with David.

When we portray Africa's natural resources in terms of David Ricardo's 1817 "comparative advantage," it creates two (2) mindset scenarios: 1. that natural resources by itself gives Africa an advantage. 2. that those who don't have what Africa has are at a disadvantage ......

....are we so disempowered we first need others to recognise what is already obvious?....Or am I missing something?

I supprt AU's call for the 16th century Mercator map to be replaced with the modern version that reflects Africa's true size....but what stops African governments from immediately using the right map in all official publications/ material and calling on all Africans to do so....

Just as events somehow re-align for the success of those who fear but are bold enough to proceed.... they appear to re-arrange negatively for those who assume they are better than those who failed ....the former succeeds out of faith, but the latter fails out of hubris.....yea
