🥦 However, many pregnancies are unplanned, and research suggests that update of folic acid supplements is low. Increased uptake of supplements as well as consumption of folate-rich foods is vital to reduce the risk of NTDs.

The NDNS found: 🩸Red blood cell folate reflects long term folate status. For women of childbearing age (16 to 49 years), 83% had a red blood cell folate concentration less than 748nmol per litre, below which there is increased risk of pregnancy affected by neural tube defects.
