In our excitement to learn and do all we can, we were in a frenzy of how much more there's still to be done. We forgot to celebrate & calibrate. Some lessons from that:

@nubiafest Since our launch in 2016, we held ONE fundraiser. We're SO grateful to all who donated. Donations covered part of our first conference. Somewhere in the internalized conditioning was a notion: no financial support = unworthy of support. So, this part 👇🏿was truly overwhelming!!

We ask cause that's what we've had to do. It's what we've been doing since @nubiafest 2021. It was not so much what we were doing or even how we were doing it. At the heart of it was endless navigation of the striking contradictions between politics, power & of course language.

When your year feels like a month your month feels like a week, your week feels like a day & your day like a blink.. how do you keep track? (Not a rhetorical question!) Ever looked up and ask yourself, how did I get here? Why am I here and what am I doing? (totally rhetorical)

Grief comes in waves that know no shore but love. When @thefacipulator asked Herman to join our board, he said: "On one condition: you must promise to learn yOUR language." Today we renew our promise and embrace a name reflecting it. Our love to all who miss him. We do too.
