They tried to say that he died of his mental illness rather than extended exposure to scalding water. Schizophrenia and heart failure

The implication, I suppose is that in Florida, medical examinations are done blindfolded.

The official report here said their ME didn't see any burns on #DarrenRainey. The autopsy photos show EXTENSIVE burns.

"The shower wasn't dangerous" Neither is mine, unless you turn on only the hot water and trap someone in it.

Very upsetting to see our commander-in-chief endorse police brutality. Suspects in care of police deserve due process.

It's not about good cops vs bad cops. It's cops with shitty training & too much power. And they won't get better if we pretend otherwise.

The "shoot first" policy is reinforced by "shoot first" training. Police recruits train 58 hrs shooting firearms, only 8 hrs de-escalation.

Currently 46 states and 2/3 of police departments *do not* have a policy that restricts police deadly force to be used only as last resort.

Every state legislature and police department should enact these policies to reduce police violence and protect communities from harm.

Even where this standard isn't yet state law, police departments can decide to adopt it. Depts that do are 25% less likely to kill people.

For example, Tennessee law requires police to try "all other reasonable means of apprehension" before using deadly force. Most states don't.

4 states (DE, IA, RI, TN) have laws that only allow police to use deadly force as last resort. Police kill 20% fewer people in these states.
