Israel intentionally destroyed every university in Gaza and has killed 94 university professors, 100s of teachers and 1000s of students. Meanwhile, Israel’s academia supports the war, and expressed no solidary with colleagues in Gaza. A few examples 🧵
Hebrew University, Law: “Dear students, army reservists, As we open the new academic year while the war is still going on, and as some of you are still in active duty, we would like to express our great appreciation for your courage and sacrifice for the State of Israel….”
The Hebrew University main webpage: “The Hebrew University community is mobilizing for the national effort as part of the 'Iron Swords' war and is running many initiatives to help the community listed below. Our strength is in our unity, mutual guarantee and social solidarity!”
Tel Aviv University’s main webpage: Supporting soldiers, helping them to "fulfil their calling" and offer financial support, as well as a range of other dedicated services
Reichman University: the slogan “Together we Will Win” at the main webpage, and a link to a dedicated webpage for "the rights of students serving in the army”
Haifa University, Faculty of Law: "The Faculty of Law welcomes everyone and wishes you a safe and successful academic year. The Faculty family nourishes our dear warriors and Israeli society as a whole. United and strong we will win"

Thank you for sharing. I think it is great that these national educational institutions recognize the need for solidarity in the nation’s mission to eradicate Hamas. If you have any quandaries about Israel’s actions…I say to you “tomato/tamahto.”

Academics point to three related phenomena: the destruction of Gaza's educational infrastructure, assaults on universities in Gaza and West Bank (except from TS)
