What if I threw my hat into the ring and said it parallels the ending to the Hans Christen Anderson novel? The little mermaid refused to kill the prince and is thus turned into an air spirit instead of sea foam? (Nene going from drowning to a bird)
I still love the art direction of Tiny Light, it's simple yet symbolic. The crayon, overlay waves, and paper-like textures made it perfect.
