It’s been almost 3 years since my wife passed away and I have been adjusting and adapting being a single father. Some days are better than others, but today makes me smile. Got home to receive letters from the last born 🥹🥰🥰
Happy heavenly birthday my love 😘😘. Today is your birthday muntu ❤️❤️. We miss you dearly and we hope we are making you proud. I've done relatively well without you; the house is intact, have not broken many utensils in the house as you usually complained 🙈.
I am Xhosa man who is proud of his culture, & have noted the outrage against
#Inxeba
. I wish the same outrage by my fellow Xhosa brothers gainst:
1. Women Abuse
2. Poor matric results in EC
3. Deaths of initiates
4. Landlessnes and poverty
5. Underdevelopment in the EC
I love you 😘 and will see you in the next lifetime. I can imagine the combination of my mother, my aunt (Fito), my cousins; Sis Noqethe and Mphumzi and you; debating who loved me the most.
Continue resting in peace my love. Sending you love from Bobo and Viwe too ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Today my late mother has been on my mind. When I faced financial exclusion at 4th year, she stormed the finance office and wanted record of all private bursary holders, their academic records and means test. What a legend! I got a sponsor immediately. Lala ngoxolo Majola
Meet the new MEC of Health in GP. I first met him in 1990 in SOWETO Student politics:
He holds: Bsc, MBCHB, Mmed, FCOG.
Leadership: COSAS Soweto, SASCO President, ANC YL Treasure (GP), Spokesperson NTT.
Currently: Council Chairperson of TUT, HOD Obstetrics, ANC PEC..
I am privileged to have witnessed this incredible journey of a young man from a village next to a rural hospital I was working at. from when he was a medical student visiting the hospital to assist, to doing Community service at the same hospital..now a specialist physician 👏
Lol, the tweeter revolutionaries and their online militancy. Cde Steyn Speen joined the mass democratic movement before you joined tweeter. He is a tried and tested of the movement and works in the structures while you tweet
Cyril Ramaphosa's Political Advisor is, wait for it, a WHITE man called Steyn Speed, a whole white political advisor for a BLACK President with the interest of the BLACK majority, to those with investigative skills I hereby hand him over to you for further dissection.
I'm sorry I have not been bringing food to guards at the boom gates, as you usually did. Tonight I will drop them a meal, I swear motho. You are forever in our minds and forever in our hearts. Your star shone so bright on earth and I'm certain your wings are glorified in heaven.
they are doing well at school & I have somehow managed to keep my sanity 😊and soldier on. You would not want me to give up, that would be a great disappointment for you. So, when fatigue and despondency sets in, I get inspired by thoughts of you cheering me on.
You were beautiful inside and outside and you empowered me to deal with negative energy and you tamed that anarchist and warlord in me. Im calm and not shaken by destruction now. I maintain it was an absolute honour to be your husband and experience that Godly love.
Oh, 2 days ago I donated the clothes you bought for the needy little boy next to traffic lights, that you could not deliver in time. I gave them to a car gaurd at Checkers shopping center, who has a 4 years old boy. I thought that's a reasonable thing to do.
I was deployed a Goddess by God and I have experienced the love of God through you. You were too good to be true and we are told Goddesses don't live for long.
Last time when I was at the graveyard I cried. I promise I won't cry this morning.
Today is your birthday muntu ❤️❤️. We miss you dearly and we hope we are making you proud. I've done relatively well without you; the house is intact, have not broken many utensils in the house as you usually complained, the kids are well disciplined as you taught them....
17 years ago I came to Taung Village, from SOWETO, as a young Community Service Doctor. I had never heard of Taung before. At the end of my Community service year, My conscious could not let me leave the people of Taung. There were only 3 doctors at the hospital, and two GPs.
Dr Lehlohonolo Makhakhe :MB CHB, Diploma HIV Man(SA), MMED (Derm), FC Derm
From Free State has written the first comprehensive African atlas.
Just look at the majority of the contributers in this book.
A thread of African children 🙏🙏
The day a health worker in the public sector stops being creative or be restricted by lack of resources, the health system in this country will collapse.
The North West Health Department says it will take action against its employees who were on duty when newborn babies were put in cardboard boxes instead of incubators or cribs at the Mahikeng Provincial Hospital.
These two fine doctors are probably a symbolic communication from God about how powerful the former Transkei can be if it were to achieve its full potential. Gone too soon but left enduring legacy of excellence.
We have world champion racists and hypocrites in SA. When we spoke about land they developed affection for the Khoi and the San after genocides that nearly led to their extinction. When we mourn
#WinnieMandela
now they love Stompie Seipei.
Came to Taung, from SOWETO, as a young Community Service Doctor 15 yrs ago.The poverty breaks my heart and this year I want to put a smile on faces of children from disadvantaged families & I decided to host a Children's Christmas party..any form of contribution is welcome
A story of a child from humble beginnings, showing that spiritual wealth is better than material wealth. A story of how a child from a township and rural areas can make it with a network of support and love. A story of a ghetto child who wants to change the world
@A_baby_Girl22
I'm so sorry for your loss. I went through the same thing few months ago and I wish you strength and courage to face this dark period. God and time will heal you! God will restore 🙏🙏🙏. May His Soul Rest in Peace and you hang on to the memories you created together.
Humbled and privileged to be elected the President of the Southern African HIV Clinicians Society. Gratitude to fellow Board members for believing in me, Gratitude to members of the organisation who elected a then rural based doctor to the Board. Gratitude to the mentors 🙏🏿
Protests blocked the road to Zithulele hospital & threatened his planned visit to a local clinic, Dr John Mitchell's desire to see his patients was too strong. He carried 25kg of meds, walked for over an hour and swam over the river all to serve the people of Mqanduli. 👊👊
Thanks all for the lovely messages and heartfelt birthday wishes to my late wife.I did not think it will get this overwhelming response. I am touched by the love shown to her. She was larger than life and I will cherish her for the rest of my life. Enkosi, realeboga 🙏🙏
It's your birthday week. Music was an integral part of our marriage.

It’s been 26 days since you have been gone. I miss, the kids miss you. We are struggling with out your leadership and love. A tribute to wifey: A thread
Poverty is degrading! I organized a Xmas party for children from poor families from acroos 107 taung villages. Granny came instead of her grandchild, on inquiry her grandson refused to come to the event because he has no shoes and no decent clothes & is ashamed of himself 😢😢😢
Yesterday was the 34th anniversary of the brutal murder of Dr Fabian Ribero & his wife Florence. Dr Ribeiro was assassinated for his work in exposing police brutality & for assisting young activists in Mamelodi.
A thread of some of activist medical doctors in SA.
I serve a poor community & most of my patients don't have much. The smile from the kids when they see me and the excitement from elderly patients when they get into my consulting room are so fullfilling!
I am a beneficiary of non payment of fees! After matriculating at Morris Issacson(SOWETO), I registered at MEDUNSA in 1995. My studies were paid by NSFAS, PUTCO , & a Japanese NGO. I have worked at Rural areas for15 years and the community has benefited from my education
I have been an HIV Clinician for 15 years now, having been part of the first group of doctors to treat HIV in the public sector, it warms one's heart to see that most of the patients are still alive and have a good quality of life.
You may be gone but will never be forgotten...We would have been at Tsomo this weekend and drive to Qunu on Tuesday, then drive back to Joburg on Wednesday. I miss you..
A heart warming message from a young lady from North West. Whilst I was her family doctor I had encouraged her to further her studies. She had complained about poor socio economic status &I told her my situation was worse than hers. She is now a first graduate in the family 🙌
It is a common practice for charlatans, political quarks, reactionaries and pseudo militants to rubbish Nelson Mandela's legacy and portray him as sellout. In this thread let me correct the lie about
CODESA.

@Andrielmolobel3
Mrs Mhlongo is a legend and a pioneer. She inspired many when we were growing up. She is a 80 years old and few people reach that age.
Beautiful memory and company. Spirit of Medicine Award recepient for 2018, from the SA Medical Association (SAMA), for Extra-ordinary service to community extending beyond the field of Medicine, championing the cause of the poor and the indigent within a given ecosystem….
18 years ago this week, the MEDUNSA MBCHB class of 2001 took the Hippocratic oath. We were mostly from poor families, breaking the poverty cycle, mostly first time graduates in their families. Thanks to NSFAS, PUTCO foundation & the Japanese people for sponsoring my studies 🙏🙏
This put a smile on my face. We had teachers who brought hope to us when we had an evil state, violence and chaos around our communities in the 90s, they held our hands and encouraged us not to give up on school. Teachers are so under appreciated, they are miracle workers 🙌
I am humbled & honoured to be appointed the Conference Chair of the 6th Southern African HIV Clinician Conference for 2023. With the support of my colleagues, I am certain this conference will be a success 🙏🏿
“Aunty” is back 😊, she has been gone for a month & I made sure laundry is done, dishes are clean when she gets back, a perfectionist though, immediately finds work to do in the house. She is a God sent and the way she loves my daughter is amazing. I thank God for my helper 🙏🏿
I am truly blessed! My patient turns 100 years old and insist that I should be in the program. I have been to many parties and celebrations but it is for the first time I attend a 100th year birthday. Happy 100th birthday Mama Mankuroane
In 2018 colleagues:
1. Elected me Deputy Pres of SA HIV Clinicians Society.
2. Elected me to the Exec committee of the Rural Doctors Association of SA.
3. Awarded me the Spirit of Medicine Award.
I am inspired & humbled, hope not to disappoint them. My feet are on the ground
34 years ago,on this day, Batandwa Ndondo was brutally slain by the notorious Vlaakplaas Unit, at the age of 22 years, having been identified by the Matanzima regime,as an enemy of Transkei and SA regimes. He was a healthcare activist, Student leader and anti apartheid activist.
How many of us are part of clinic committees in our areas? Each clinic should have:
1. Good infrastructure
2. Adequate staff
3. Adequate medicines & Supplies
4. Good administrative processes
5. Treatment policies & guidelines
Pop in your local clinic and speak to the manager
This is an appreciation tweet to all the Aunts, Siblings, Uncles, brothers, Grandmother's etc who take care of HIV orphans. Ensuring adherence to ARVs and later disclosing to teenagers is surely emotionally draining. You guys are heroes and heroines
Heart diseases are becoming the leading cause of death worldwide, causing about 17 million deaths per year. 80% of premature heart related diseases in people less than 65yrs of age are preventable through lifestyle (The Heart & Stroke Foundation SA).
My fondest memory of Chris Hani is in 1992 when we were leaders of COSAS in Soweto Zone. He marched with students and later addressed us. In his address he condemned the state sponsored violence and told us to be disciplined at all times.
#ChrisHani26
Miss her so much
Xhosa Poet, Sk Mqhayi laments death, in his poem titled “Ukufa”
“Gqogqe qhuqha nqwelo yogoduka
Thambo dala kade bemqonqqotha, Diza dala kade bemkhwahlaza.
Beth’buya zulu laseMthatha Mdali weenkedama, mthombo weenyembezi,Nyoka emakhandakhanda.”
I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of support, the kind words & so many virtual hugs. I wish I could respond to each message. I was blessed with a great wife and now I receive this amazing love. Thanks so much 🙏🙏🙏🙏
4 key things ordinary people ask themselves when you die as a former African leader:
1. Do you use your own Health system?
2. Where did your children attend school?
3. Are you tolerant towards opposition?
4. Did you accumulate wealth from public purse?

I'm at a clinic in Taung, & a patient tells me she has hung a news paper with my story in her living room! She says she always prays for me! Joys of rural medicine!
Heart-warming text from a gifted young man I met by chance. Gave him a lift to school, near an informal settlement in Joburg South. He tells me he is an orphan and wants to be a medical doctor. He stays with his unemployed brother. Taking this one to medical school next year 🤞
For me this is “same script but different cast”. I dream about my wife everyday since her passing. It’s like a nightmare, unbelievable. She was my best friend man! It’s been the hardest 17 days of my life. For the sake of the kids, I need to soldier on
Congratulations to Prof ET Mokgokong for the honour of the Order of the Boab in Gold for his work in the health field.
Prof Mokgokong the former VC of MEDUNSA played a huge role in training of Black doctors in South Africa. A thread on his contributions..
We are proud of Prof Mashudu Tshifularo and his team, for performing world's first middle ear transplant, 52 years after Dr Christiaan Barnard performed the world's first heart transplant.
She got married to a rural doctor who is an activist. In discharging my responsibilities, I collide with authorities at times & that can be a lonely space to be. Thanks for the support and amazing love. Happy birthday and many happy returns my love
The schizophrenia of South African politics:
1. "liberals" are in fact rightwingers
2. "revolutionaries" are prone to steal from the people
3. The "anti-corrupt" and pro clean governance are likely to be racist & anti-transformation
4. The progressive are not vocal or organised
Today it was an outreach day! I was working in Cassel Village at the Northern Cape. We come here each Thursady and give hope to our patients. Joys of rural medicine
My day is made!!
This young academic achiever from Taung Village came to my practice to show me his gold medal. He told me he dreams of becoming a doctor one day.
7. Appreciation Award for working under adversity by RuDASA.
8. Annual Award by PHASA.
As JT Gumede (ANC President in 1928) put it “We must sacrifice our personal ambitions for the greater cause of the people”
Very disheartening to work at local clinics currently at NW Province. serving mostly unemployed people then you make a private scripts of ARVs costing almost R500-00, Epiletic treatment around R350, Diabetic treatment around R250. You feel so ashamed and heartless 😢😢😢
I am pleased that the North West Department of health has been placed under administration by the Cabinet. I hope labour ensures that Mafikeng Medical stores opens, medication is delivered to Districts, and all employees go back to clinics and hospitals.
Happy birthday to my no 1 cheerleader and my VIP patient, Mrs Mankuroane, from Taung Village. She believes I'm the best doctor in the world ☺️☺️. She turns 102 years old today ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Single father diaries:
1) 07H30 drop last born at school
2) Collect her from Aftercare at 4PM
3) Take her to swimming class at 17H30, Watch & wait for her.
4) Prepare traditional clothes & help choose a song for her dance tomorrow
Ziyakhala!Respect women & mothers in particular
Homophobia is threat to us reaching the 90 90 90 goals (diagnosing 90% of HIV infections, putting 90% of HIV patients on ARVs, and achieving 90% viral suppression). LGBT community feels stigmatized in health centers and as such do not avail themselves for HIV testing.
Maybe you guys really have no idea what homophobia does to peoples' lives
Imagine living in a homophobic country that denies you access to healthcare
Imagine being jailed for being in a same-sex relationship
The people that enforce these rules and regulations are homophobic
We are told Pres Ramaphosa loves white people & we should be worried. As far as I know, ANC is not anti- white. 3 ANC presidents' education was sponsored by generous white people, The founder, Dr Seme, first ANC president, Dr Dube, & OR Tambo. White gevaar must fall!
Congrads to all Drs who are part of the Limpopo Surgical Outreach team on receiving this Award from the Rural Drs Association of SA (RuDASA).These specialist Drs provide services for free,on weekends to rural communities. Some Drs are from as far as Free State & Northern Cape..
