Following the #Pahalgam attack, #India retaliated, impacting trade. #Pakistan then announced a halt to indirect #trade, a move analysts see as largely symbolic. Trade between India and Pakistan, though fragile, continues via Dubai. @NishaTaneja20

Indias trade ties with Pakistan have been fragile since 1947, with sporadic pauses all through; however, indirect trade through Dubai has continued without interruption.

The pattern we observed then was that within a month of announcing the suspension, Pakistan permitted the import of pharmaceuticals and APIs from India. About a year and a half later, sugar, cotton, and yarn were also added to the list of permissible imports.

#Pakistan recently declared that it would stop all #trade with #India. It has merely reaffirmed its decision to keep trade with India suspended — a policy in place since 2019. Glad to share my views with Hindu Business Line. Link to the article: https://t.co/5ua62cRwBK

At the recently concluded 6th #BIMSTEC #Summit in #Bangkok, the seven member states pledged to “swiftly” conclude the BIMSTEC Free Trade Area Agreement (#FTA). Glad to share my views with Business Standard. @ICRIER https://t.co/GpcMaqEMUr

Calls for an early conclusion to an FTA have gone nowhere in five years as members have not been able to reach a consensus over issues such as market access or a dispute settlement mechanism
