You’ve already shown the country what leadership looks like. You’ve shown me what representation can feel like. I’m just one voice writing to you from Baltimore now—but I carry Houston with me every day. And I hope you do too.

- Lead on accountability. Be relentless in standing up to authoritarian overreach. Hold the line on civil liberties and constitutional checks.

- Defend the environment, especially for frontline communities like those along the Ship Channel and in neighborhoods disproportionately burdened by pollution.

Please: - Push for federal protections for LGBTQ+ and disabled people. Fight back against efforts to erase us. Make sure the law recognizes our humanity.

But I also know this: Houston doesn’t quit. And neither do you. So I’m asking you to keep fighting. Even louder. Even harder.

I see wealth hoarded at the top while working-class Americans, especially in places like our hometown, get left behind.

I fear that if I speak too loudly about civil rights, I could be silenced or punished. I see environmental safeguards being shredded, and I worry about what that means for future Houstonians—for our bayous, our air, our communities already vulnerable to flooding and heat.

We are just months into Trump’s return to the White House, and I already feel my freedom slipping away. I’m afraid that if I travel abroad, I won’t be allowed back in—because of how my passport identifies me.

As a fellow Houstonian - and as a trans, disabled, LGBT American - I want to say thank you. And I want to ask for more. Because now, more than ever, we need that same courage, and we need it every. single. day.

You’ve never been afraid to raise your voice when something is wrong. You’ve stood up to Trump when others stayed silent. You’ve spoken hard truths on the House floor when the stakes were sky-high. And you’ve done it not for show, but for justice.
