Watching @chia_project quietly build fundamental infrastructure while everyone else argues about narratives. The fundamental work seems boring until it's the only thing left standing.

Why I've been sitting out blockchain gaming as a game dev, and why Bram Cohen's work on Chia state channels is changing my mind. Real-time play. P2P settlement. Protocol-level design. No economic parasites. Thread 🧵👇
Bram Cohen is building the future of on-chain gaming and nobody's paying attention. As a game dev, I've watched blockchain gaming from the sidelines for years. Never pulled the trigger. Here's why I've been waiting, and why that might be changing.

Maybe I'm early. Maybe on-chain gaming never takes off. But if it does? It's going to be on infrastructure that was designed for it from the ground up. Not retrofitted onto chains built for DeFi speculation.

As someone who's spent years building game economies, reading through this repo is wild: https://t.co/xljXkRc2hr The referee system. Commit-and-reveal for randomness. Dispute resolution. Bram thought through the ACTUAL problems, not just the hype.

Poker. Word games. Strategy games. The building blocks for something even bigger. All with real money. Or custom game tokens. Or NFT rewards. Zero friction.

The legal angle matters too. Games of skill are legal in way more jurisdictions than casino gaming. There's no house here. Just two players, math, and instant settlement in XCH or any CAT (Chia Asset Token).

This isn't a smart contract bolted onto a chain that wasn't designed for it. It's protocol-level architecture. State channels + coinset model + Chialisp. Everything works peer-to-peer at layer 1. No central control. No middleman. No economic parasites.

Chia's state channels for gaming are almost ready, and the design is genuinely elegant. Real-time play without waiting for the blockchain. P2P matches with no casino taking fees. Only goes on-chain if someone tries to cheat and then a referee slashes them.

And infrastructure that's built to last. Not some L2 that might get abandoned when the next shiny thing comes along. Turns out Bram Cohen has been solving all of this for the past 2+ years.

Provably fair randomness without needing to trust anyone. Dispute resolution that actually works when players cheat. No middleman taking a rake from every match.

I've been waiting for someone to solve the actual problems. Not the hype problems. The REAL ones. Transaction costs that don't destroy game economies. Latency that doesn't make real-time play impossible.

The problem isn't the tech. It's the foundation. Building a game economy on a chain that might not exist in 5 years? Building on an ETH L2 where the economics are fundamentally broken? That's not a risk, that's just stupid.

You can follow Chia gaming development here. Currently it's a bit half-chewed but rapidly approaching alpha

Anyone know the format of @chonksxyz 3D data that is stored on chain? @marka_eth

In-world AI generated scene from scratch! No external tools were used (blender, vscode etc). I simply typed things like `/create scarecrow` or `/edit make bees fly around it` and the AI handled it. The whole session was around 12 minutes, most creations and edits took <10s and

i can't believe it's been 8 months since we launched our token. things were crazy back then, we didn't expect the market cap to even come close to what it did and as a result many of our OG believers that held our NFT and got the airdrop ended up rich as fuck over night. some
