To achieve this, the World Bank Group has expanded its DARES programme beyond Nigeria to encompass Central and West Africa. The Regional DARES programme aims to provide electricity access to up to 10 million people across this region.

What could be more impactful than transitioning Nigeria's energy system? Expanding energy access to millions of Africans and initiating energy system transitions starting from Central and West Africa.

I had the pleasure of meeting @PresidentBio, the President of #SierraLeone. I expressed my gratitude for his leadership & the government’s commitment to a clean #energytransition. We discussed how 🇸🇱 can strengthen partnerships & collaboration with its development partners.

A notable example of this collective action is the joint initiative between the @WorldBank and @AfDB_Group supported by @SEforALLorg and other partners. This ambitious project aims to provide electricity access to at least 300 million people in Africa by 2030.

However, there is cause for optimism as governments, development partners, the private sector, and other stakeholders are uniting to accelerate efforts to end energy poverty.

Despite significant strides in clean energy solutions, a concerning trend emerged in 2022: the number of people living without electricity access increased for the first time in over a decade.

Delighted to meet @JJankowskiEU, Ambassador of the EU to Sierra Leone. I thanked him for the support provided by @EUinSierraLeone in the consultations & development of the #SierraLeone Green Growth Plan launched last month. We also discussed potential areas of collaboration.
