I’d like to think there are more private industrial engines on Sodor, than just Mavis, Bill, Ben, and by extent Fergus. Sodor itself would support a large amount of industries, the RWS itself supports this. Not only for mines, but gasworks, oil fields, refineries, brickworks and

-various other industries. Of course, not everyone would have it nearly as good as the Fat Controller’s engines. Most of the industrial engines would probably even look at them like rich folk everyone looks up to and admire, whilst they are just filthy factory workers working in

-the background that everyone overlooks. Most of them would despise the NW engines I’m sure, thinking they have it so much better than them. Of course, some were lucky to have found the Fat Controller’s favor and brought to the railway, or preserved by some organization. Others…

Well… as we all know, not even Sodor is entirely safe from the gas axe, or replacement by diesel engines.

A.W. Dry themselves would’ve definitely used engines. Surely they would’ve used them for various duties, like helping build and run the shipyards, or dredging out the marshlands around Knapford. Given they have steelworks, they’d need shunters too. Perhaps they even invested in-

@DragonsNavigate Defo would encourage more stories about Sodor’s industrial sector to be written aside from Mavis, Bill, Ben and Fergus! :)

@Nictrain123 People talk about Sodor as if it’s this beautiful green place, when it’s probably industrialized to hell and back

@Nictrain123 I had an idea for a petroleum refinery at Tidmouth that extends in global trade explaining the tankers all over the place. It is ran by Eugene & Sheldon, the private shunters, but the company is very iffy about environmental practices when it comes to business.

@JACCC_052 Nice! I figure there might be a refinery for processing oil at Tidmouth. There is an abundance of oil wells on the south side of the island if I recall correctly!

@Nictrain123 I always assumed both Cronk & Tid had other industrial engines, especially Tidmouth Plus I’m sure the harbor itself has a few engines to call their own

@Nictrain123 In my headcanon, after the NW was formed, the CG Mining Company no longer needed Neil, but other industries on the island did need a private engine. For a bit of extra money, Neil would be loaned out to different sites for many years.

@Nictrain123 I like to think sodor had many more industrial engines. The boxtanks (6 in my case) had to go somewhere, SCC, CGMC, SIW, or just scrapped. Aside from mavis and the twins in present day, the engines who work at the works at privately, and diesels owned by A.W.Dry
