#PSA While you have the freedom to believe whatever you'd like, reality doesn't care what you believe. Not everything is "up for debate."

The world would be so much better if people could learn to just mind their own business.

The Big Bang predicts a hot dense state in the early universe. To say it‘s wrong because we don’t know whether there is a singularity at t=0 is like saying black holes don’t exist because we don’t know whether there actually is a singularity behind the event horizon
@martinmbauer People in different contexts use the term "big bang" in a range from (1) "the universe is expanding from a previous hot dense state" to (2) "there was singularity at t=0". (1) is indeed firm consensus, but I think most theorists think (2) is an unphysical classical GR result.

Hot Take: Gravity is STILL a Force! https://t.co/DkQujqoyI1 (because the term "force" isn't actually very useful)

YouTube peaked in 2012 when it was still niche. After that, it has been a slow painful decline into the mainstream. It has become the monster it championed itself against.

You know... It's really annoying when people think of physics and only imagine experimental stuff. As a theoretical physicist, my graduate work only required pens, paper, and a computer.
Physicists: please, I need 23 billions to build my new super-collider. Mathematicians: hey guys, look at my new amazing state-of-the-art lab equipment.

Math is invented, not discovered. It's just a tool we made up. A great tool, but a tool nonetheless.

6. Anti-Matter Falls Under Gravity (Just Like Matter) 7. More Distant Galaxies Discovered using JWST 8. QFT g-factor Measurements And that's just a list of the more newsworthy examples, which is a tiny fraction of physics progress.

Let's go back 15 years to account for pandemic-related slowdowns, but off the top of my head: 1. Higgs Boson Discovered 2. Gravitational Waves Discovered 3. Black Holes Photographed 4. Evidence for Gravitational Wave Background 5. Planck Probe CMB Data (contintued in thread)
@NickLucid I don’t disagree, but what are your top ten advances in Physics in the last decade?

The reason people don't *think* progress has been made in physics is because they don't *hear* about the progress. Most of it isn't particularly newsworthy, but it is happening. In short: 99% of progess is boring to a general audiance.
Physics hasn't been stale for decades. One problem (quantum gravity) has seen little progress. Many other fields have seen transformative progress, for example my field of cosmology.

We launched a new channel!! The format is a fun twist on tutorial videos. Basically, Em gives me an prompt and I have to animate something that meets the requirements. Just uploaded the second video: https://t.co/pdghCIUlUp We'd love if you checked it out.

It's difficult to understand my own financial struggles when my income is higher than my (blue collar) parents' combined income when I was growing up... until I realize, after adjusting for inflation I make *significantly* less. 😥💀
