Porter is not a fit and proper person so who is paying for this ?

If a govt can withstand calls for the AG to stand aside after credible allegations of a serious criminal offence have been made against him, a little conflict of interest isn’t going to worry them. It’s not like there were any defamation law reforms on the table anyway
