Around 2004-2005,
#SpongeBob
merchandise (along with many other nick shows) had branding using a splat background and a circular logo. Many of them are based on iconic episodes of the show, and is probably the hardest to find SB merch era outside of a few select products!
The next
#SpongeBob
movie (Search for SquarePants), will be animated by Reel FX Animation! Known for The Book of Life, Scoob, and a few Looney Tunes shorts!
Some speculate it will look like the 3D portion of Sponge out of Water. Do you think the film is in good hands? Cause I do!
Before we had the iconic
#SpongeBob
Musical: we had The Sponge Who Could Fly. Based on the "lost episode" from season 3. It was a stage show that toured outside of the United States from 2007-2012.
Here's a 🧵 of information regarding this show
A list of every artistic medium

The 10th anniversary of
#SpongeBob
went overboard with it's style guide!
The standout ones featured in it are Classic SB, AlphaBob, Simply SB, and Bob Squared. With the ladder two being featured in SpongeBob SquigglePants.
I love this style guide, which style is your favorite?
why is western animation so often deliberately ugly? why so visually repulsive? why have we let this permeate our culture?
from Spongebob to Family Guy, Rick and Morty to Big Mouth, Steven Universe to Simpsons to Rugrats—a dozen styles, all seemingly consciously hideous. Why?
Lady Upturn has made a shocking amount of apperences in all 3 spin-offs combined, opposed to Squilliam in
#SpongeBob
alone!
Squilliam Fancyson has made a total of 8 appearences with the last one being a a cameo in a photo.
While Lady Upturn has made a whopping 37 appearences!
In Season 2, they were going to make an episode where
#SpongeBob
gets sad over everyone "forgetting" his birthday. Jay Lender hated the idea, saying it would kill the show!
In 2005, a book came out with a very similar premise. Not sure if it was inspired by this or a coincidence.
Around 2006 there was an event for Nick on ABC called
#SpongeBob
Birthday Bop. It was a broadcast where people submitted their birthdays and it got featured on a scroll.
Speaking of birthdays, I also found a birthday greeting animation from the UK!

Comics
#12
, The Salty Spitoon was shut down. At the end of the comic, one of the previous customers mother reopened it.
In Season 13's "Salty Sponge" we see the current owner: Mrs. Sally Spitoon. Unsure if she's his mother, probably not, but it's a fun theory!
Some of the smaller characters were animatronics, such as Gary, Plankton, Karen and Mrs. Puffs snail. The Flying Dutchman has a weirdly disturbing design created via puppetry. I kind of like it!
The 🧵 continues! More
#SpongeBob
cuddle pillows! Shout-out to number1wariofan on AOSB for sharing these with me! The standouts to me are the movie face and the "hip" one at the end.
I went insain and decided to do the math for EVERY appearence these two characters have made in
#SpongeBob
(including Spin-offs, shorts and movies).
Sandy has made 214 appearences
While Bubble Bass has made 102.
BB's number is still suprisingly high, but no need to worry yet!
The next

Some speculate it will look like the 3D portion of Sponge out of Water. Do you think the film is in good hands? Cause I do!
The first
#SpongeBob
movie DVD included a bonus feature titled Case of the Sponge "Bob".
In it, Hillenburg stated that they wanted to make jokes about Squidward inking, but it always looked like he was pooping his pants.
Clearly they've opened up to it over time.
Simularly to the 10th anniversary, 2004 is also a big year for
#SpongeBob
style guides!
Giving us unique designs such as SketchBob, Icon, Retro, and Punk! Some of Icons designs were repurposed in the Emoji style guide, and Punk occasional gets a T-shirt or two!
These Mega Bloks
#SpongeBob
sets are so rare and hard to find, some of them probably never even released! All of these are severly underdocumented compared to other sets. This was around the time MB was rebranding to Mega Construx, so that might have been a factor to this.
The costumes started off with decently accurate costumes that show the actors faces (You look real good with a mustache Mr. Krabs). The character I think got translated the worst was SpongeBob himself, his design simply doesn't work in this costume format. His face is too big
When The Patrick Star Show reached Season 2, a common error occured where
#SpongeBob
's holes are flipped when he's facing left.
The top images are SpongeBob from Season 1, the bottom images are from Season 2.
Near the end of it's run in Mexico, the visuals got a complete overhaul, with every actor having their face covered, along with the background being more 3D. Due to this, maybe of the VAs in the Spanish dub reprised their role. Including the original VA for Bob Esponja himself!
The full stage show is lost media, but the soundtrack is fully available online along with a few film rips (mostly in Spanish). Most of the songs are cringe worthy, and have some weird character portrayals. Here's a link to the full album!
Shockingly, some of the crew behind the show worked on this. The script was written by head Season 4 writer Steven Banks. Plus in the AOSB server, Eban Schletter talked about his experience writing for it. It was so bad that he didn't even seek out the new one!
In the Japanese Dub,
#SpongeBob
uses Boku pronouns. Which means humble will undertones of "feeling young".
On the other hand, Squidward uses Washi pronouns. Which is used in western dialect, and is often used in fiction to stereotypically represent older people.
The set design emulated the show's backgrounds, usually by using flat paintings and cutouts. With only certain things like barrels being 3D. I find it funny how SBs bed is vertical so the actor wouldn't have to lay down...since it would probably be a pain to get back up.
When it toured in Spain, SB got a complete redesign by giving him an animatronic face. His mouth and bottom eyelids moved! I adore him! He's much friendlier than the original! Occasionally they used a static costume as well. The other costumes were also given face paint.
The infamous eye popping one is one of the many variations. There's even quite a few modern ones. (Two of them look the same from a glance, but those are two different faces. They are just very very similar)
A Patrick, Squidward and Sandy plush were also made in the same collection. You can even put your finger in Pats belly button.
There's also a tongue variant of Sponge, along with a swimsuit one, which is the only one I can find where he has a pose opposite to having floppy limps
I saved the worst one for last! Whatever the barnacles this thing is! The face, the eyes, the length of the limps...I hate it!
This is flirting vs harassment in the form of SpongeBob cuddle pillows!

Simulator on Roblox. Rube Goldfish became a morph before characters such as Karen, Pearl, Mrs. Puff, The Flying Dutchman, and even Bubble Bass. Not sure if any of those characters will ever become morphs, but it's still interesting how Rube came before any of them!
Everyone brings up the Sandy recton in
#KampKoral
(which they've called out), but nobody brings up these ones!
-Krabs and Puff being friends despite meeting in Krusty Love
-Plankton and Krabs being aquantences despite becoming enimies as kids

In the early 2010s, the UK released
#SpongeBob
Magazines. It had contests, fanart submissions, crafts, and trivia. If I'm not mistaken, this was the magazine that gave us the infamous question answer of "SpongeBob's personal slave"
Thank you for listening to me ramble about this obscure topic! Tbh the musical doesn't look that good, and I'm happy we eventually got a better one! But I still appreciate it for trying something new and for the good qualities it has.
Here's SpongeBob wearing SpongeBob pants (freaking narcissist), a football plush, and a weirdly flirtatious Valentine's one. This is the end of the thread until I can find more.
SBs costume got a slight downgrade with a gross yellow color and less noticeable lip sync, but it's much better than where we started!
In some footage, Patrick's costume is occasionally replaced with the official mascot. No other character got this treatment
I highly recommend the full video btw! It's pretty much Hillenburg and Jean-Mitchel Cousteau gushing about marine biology, by relating the characters back to their real world equivalents! It also taught me that the ice cream monster was a frogfish!
The Cuddle Plush thread continues, here's two submitted by
@LoppySue9
! A
#SpongeBob
with a glittery bowtie, and Patrick in a Hawaiian shirt. The last one is interesting since I thought they only made one Patrick. If anyone has more cuddle pillows feel free to submit them!
Dispite Plankton never showing up in the Camp Coral flashbacks in Sponge on the Run, a younger version of Plankton has appeared in plenty of merchandise for the film.
The first photo has this bizarre almost shiny texture to it, wonder what that's about. The Krabby Patty one is also super weird, it's cool but I wonder how they even came up with it.
Additionally, all of these styles showcased were in the book How to Draw SpongeBob in 5 Splashy Styles. Along with SpongeBob SquigglePants (with Icon being a 3Ds exclusive). Also here's an example of Icon being used in the Emoji style guide since I ran out of room
The official Korean dub for
#SpongeBob
has some very interesting alterations.
Such as Paintys face being replaced, a brand new credit theme, even some of the character names.
Some of the name translations include Fatty, Whining, CEO Krabs, and Squirrel.
The reasoning for this Nicktoons Summer Splash bumper being lost media, is due to Nick purposely burying it! This is because
#SpongeBob
and Squidward have hot gay sex in it.
Shit, I almost forgot these! Here's a pirate, underpants, Mermaid Man, and Gary cuddle buddy all hanging in a Hot Topic in the early 2000s! I wish I could've visited it back when they sold these...
The Japanese box art for Creature from The Krusty Krab is completely different. Same with the name, simply calling
#SpongeBob
SquarePants. This is because it was the first game to be released in Japan.
Since many people liked my Sponge Who Could Fly musical thread, here's what each variation looked like in motion! I just showed the
#SpongeBob
costume for the Spain version since that's the only big change other than face paint. Which version is your favorite?
Way before Kamp Koral, Germany ran a
#SpongeBob
summer camp. This video is currently the only evidence of it existing, but I know there were commercials. They even wrote an original song for it as you can hear in this video! I hope we get more info eventually.
Typically
#SpongeBob
stage shows have a Patchy impersonator as the host, though sometimes it's just a regular employee. But there was one show where Perch Perkins was a host, who looks absolutely hideous!
I might make a video on the stage shows. Lmk if you'd be interested in that

The achievements in

BFBBR are taken directly from the Video Games Fanon Wiki which was made 6 years prior to the games release. THQ Nordic themselves asked permission to use these and even credited the Wiki itself!
One of my theories for this issue is that they use an earlier model for Sponge out of Water. The details add up perfectly, especially the mid arrangement of his side holes.
I know it's an earlier model, since the belt loops and holes were fixed in the final film
Sandy has made 152 appearences in SB, with her highest seasons being a tie between 8 and 11 with 17 each. The lowest was S10 with only 4 (not counting S14 since its so new). In KK she has 43 (more than any SB season!) TPSS only has 8, she has 7 shorts, and appeared in 4 movies.
I have no idea how this account got 300 followers in the span of a couple of days, but I appreciate every single one of you! Treat yourself with some Gummy Krabby Patties today!
Cuddle pillows are pretty hard to find varients for when you've gone as deep as I have, but occasionally you find some you've never even heard of! I was today years old when I found out that they've made a Plankton one!
-The Endless Summer Short
-The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie
-Truth or Square
and -It's a SpongeBob Christmas
Were the only SpongeBob creations produced in 16:9 prior to the shows jump to widescreen
Also
#SpongeBob
creates the Krabby Patty formula despite it being "an old Krabs family recipe".
I would bring up SB meeting Gary here as well, but Tom Kenny brought up that he could've met Gary at camp but adopted him as an adult, which is plausable!
Found a gold mine today! With the first one yet again being submitted by
@LoppySue9
! It's very cool finding ones of Patrick, since for a while I thought they only made one!
400 followers!? We're really close to rationing my main account! Not sure how I feel about that 😂! Thank you Nautical Nonsense lovers for your support!
A ton of newer SpongeBob games use the same model as Sponge out of Water, just with different texturing. Such as the Sponge on the Run app, Rehydrated, and The Cosmic Shake
Shockingly,
#SpongeBob
has only had two St. Patricks Day marathons. SpongeBob's St. Patrick's Sunday in 2013, and The Patrick Star Show St. Patrick's Day marathon in 2023. With the ladder having little to no marketing.
Additionally, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie might have been originally produced in 35mm. There was a trailer made in this aspect ratio, but it's unsure if the full movie was originally released like this.

Bubble Bass has made 56 appearences in SB, 33 in KK, 12 in TPSS, and made a single movie cameo in Sponge out of Water. His highest appearence in the main show is Season 13 with 17, while his lowest is Season 8 with only 1.
