“Not how magic works, sadly. It’s a miracle you can even see what I’m doing.” The light ebbs away, fading in glimmers of gold. “This isn’t something that can be taught either, if you were wondering.”

“Maybe if everyone could perceive it like you do, sure. I’d rather just keep this trick to myself.”

Ren shrugged. “Bright to you.” Loosening his fingers, the light unfurled again, spilling and coiling around his digits as if it held a sort of consciousness. “It’s nice to have my hands occupied with something, I suppose. And that can’t always be a pen or coffee mug.”

He pinched gently, index to thumb. The glow caught and held as a bright bead, compressing like soft rubber. "Light. I'm shocked you can see it," Ren eyed Arach with a curious stare. "It's light magic, to be specific."
