We can make Dallas a more affordable city and reduce car dependency by having less parking and more productive land uses which will translate into more money for DART and other ways of getting around besides a car. Join us on Tuesday to hear more: https://t.co/L7WGs4DirY…

This results in places with more urban sprawl having lower economic mobility: https://t.co/D3bPwSJd7E…. Having cars, the most expensive way of getting around, the only way to get around makes escaping poverty harder.

And again, keep in mind that these high transportation costs hurt low-income families the most. In the US, the lowest quintile of households spend 30% of their money on transportation, compared to 12% for those in the highest( https://t.co/ru6QhjOide….

To look at affordability, housing and transportation costs should be combined. These numbers are slightly dated , but when we bundle those costs ( https://t.co/rlShRLSgib…). Dallas is nearly as expensive as New York. That doesn't take into account New York’s higher incomes.

Another major way that parking minimums hurts affordability is by reinforcing car-dependency. That's because driving is expensive!!! And it's especially expensive for lower-income households: https://t.co/cin6z3mGxK How can parking reform help?

The second item is the rezoning of Floral Farms, the site of the infamous former Shingle Mountain in Southern Dallas. The rezoning would change the area from mostly industrial to a more livable neighborhood.

3. Some of the units will be deeply affordable, renting for 30% of AMI. and 4. TIF money must be spent within the TIF area ( https://t.co/GvZhkKPIE9…).

The sticker price is high for a project with just 154 units, 63 of which will be income-restricted. That high cost is worth it when you consider 1. The location downtown is exactly where we want Affordable Housing 2. The project repurposes existing but rundown buildings
