when you are a Black Xer who grew up with Silent Generation Black parents who grew up during segregation & severe Jim Crow voting bans for Black people in Arkansas, the rise of a generation born after 1980 who thinks this is all a cute game and won't vote is explosively enraging
@Needle_of_Arya
For real. Not voting is not an option for me. My dad grew up in Gulf Coast Mississippi during segregation and I’ve heard all the ugly stories. I vote because our elders literally died to give us that right.

I've had to stay off Twitter a lot lately because it's so upsetting to me. Voting was such a huge responsibility that we didn't take lightly growing up. I raised my kids the same.
I can't interact with them, or I'll lose my account.

We knew the assignment from the crib. No way I’m disrespecting the struggles my parents endured during Jim and Jane Crow era.
I’m proudly riding with Biden.
@Needle_of_Arya
My father was born in the first decade of the 20th Century. Jim Crow, WWI, the Dustbowl, the Great Depression, and WWII which he fought in.
@Needle_of_Arya
I have a 26 yr old nephew, WM, who isn't registered & decided not to vote because "they're all corrupt, the same & nothing will change anyway". His mom & I (both early & Mid GenX) constantly, while agreeing on the corruption thing to a point, call him out on that BS all the time
@Needle_of_Arya
THIS! My daddy served in the segregated US Army during WWII. My mom told me about riding the segregated buses & streetcars. They voted in EVERY election. I cannot imagine NOT voting. Simply not an option.
@Needle_of_Arya
We are the generation that’s not far removed from segregation. My high school desegregated in 72 and I was born in 76. That’s why I don’t trust the youth vote.
@Needle_of_Arya
My Mom was at the March on Washington (my great aunt took her). My grandma had a scar above her eye from her first attempt to register to vote...but I didn't hear that story until I was 13. There's NO WAY I don't do the bare minimum and stand in line to check a few boxes!
@Needle_of_Arya
Some of them expect elected officials to be perfect and give them everything they want. They ignore the limitations of any politician as well as how govt actually works. Reading some of their posts make me want to shake some sense into them. I guess underfunding education works.
@Needle_of_Arya
My grandpa made me promise to always vote, even for dog catcher. My mom tells my daughter about experiencing segregation and the importance of voting. Listening to Black folks 💩 on voting 🤦🏾♀️. It’s frustrating and saddening.
