A group of international professionals with @StateIVLP, hosted by @GlobalTiesNE, visited the Capitol this week. I enjoyed hearing about their home countries, explaining my role as Nebraska's Secretary of State and sharing my vision for the future of Nebraska.

I presented both Ambassador Yamada and Consul-General Mizobuchi with honorary Nebraska citizenships in the hope that they will consider Nebraska their home away from home.

It was an honor to welcome H.E. Shigeo Yamada, Ambassador of Japan, and Mr. Masashi Mizobuchi, Consul-General, to Nebraska. Japan is one of the top importers of Nebraska beef and several Japanese companies operate in our state, contributing to our thriving job market.

With the upcoming election year in 2026, join me in thanking our election officials who ensure that Nebraskans can cast their votes and make their voices heard.

The Elections Division in my office makes a point to visit election officials in their county offices as often as possible, facilitate election trainings and provide resources to help balance security with transparency and efficiency when conducting Nebraska's elections.

Elections aren't a one-day or one-month job, they're a year-round commitment. Election officials oversee tasks such as training poll workers, verifying ballots and maintaining voter rolls. Last year, they helped make implementation of Nebraska's new voter ID procedure seamless.

One of the most important parts of my role as Secretary of State is working with and supporting election officials from all 93 Nebraska counties. Maintaining strong relationships with these officials is essential to ensuring our democracy runs smoothly.

Our country’s lasting commitment to our founding principles of liberty and justice is a testament to the wisdom of our Founding Fathers. Today, we celebrate how those ideals inspired Americans to declare independence. I wish you all a very happy and safe Independence Day.
