Example: Madagascar finishes 2nd with 19 points. 6 of them came from beating the weakest team twice. CAF deletes those 6 points when ranking all 2nd-placed teams. Mathematically fair? Maybe. Football-wise? 😬 Harsh. Because every match was earned on the pitch. First took only 4.

In math, normalization means adjusting data so comparisons are fair. And an outlier is a result that’s too extreme. Something that could distort the average. CAF sees the weakest (6th) team in each group as that outlier. So they remove those results to “balance” the stats.

@TheOnlyBKB Mathematically, that’s a “normalization” trick, removing outliers to make comparisons fair. But in football terms, it’s unfair. Why erase results teams fought for? Why not use a points-per-game or weighted system instead? This feels like punishing consistency to simplify stats.
