I’d like to thank the good folks at @WeHaveWaysPod for inviting me to speak at this year’s #WHWF25. My “Mighty Moo” presentation was a lot of fun and seeing so many other excellent historians in action was an added bonus. Now I gotta finish the next book so I can be invited

Friday night Tiki was more of a Saturday afternoon pre-dinner cocktail. This week, it’s the “Doctor Funk,” with Hamilton pot still black rum. It has an earthy, licorice flavor; an interesting break from the usual sweeter rum drinks.

As a newbie in this whole book writing thing, I’m feeling very lucky to be at the same table as pros like @JohnCMcManus3 and @robert_lyman. Thanks to @ColesBooks for stocking “The Mighty Moo”!

Friendly conversation with UK #WHWF25 attendee. “Did the Americans ever think that naming all their carriers after Revolutionary-war battles would be offensive to the allies?” Me: “No, but ya’all burned the White House so let’s call it even.” Him: “Deal.”

I am sorry to say that Ray Williams, the last known CVL-25 veteran, died on Tuesday at the age of 101. He and his wife married on VJ Day and just celebrated their 80th anniversary. May his memory be a blessing to Ray’s family and the Cowpens community.

Signs you may have a WW2 book problem: you slam on the brakes in your car only to have a book about ULTRA code breaking in the Pacific slide out from under the driver’s side seat.

Someday, I aspire to be as relaxed as my cat. In the meantime, I have a book to write.

"Write what you know," they tell writers. I worked in intelligence, so naturally I wrote a spy novel, writes Elliot Ackerman for The Free Press.

This week’s installment of Friday night Tiki is the “Three dots and a dash”—Morse code for victory. The luxardo cherries were a bit syrup-heavy but very tasty:
