The most anxiety I've ever felt about my faith was when I first read the passages about "destroying everything that breathes," including women and children. These are passages all modern Christians must wrestle with. Not having a solid answer for them is irresponsible imo. 2/2.

To answer Steven's last question (see photo), I believe the strongest argument for atheism is the Argument from Divine Hiddenness (especially under certain views of providence/salvation), and the strongest against Christianity would be arguments against OT violence. 1/

Friend of the channel, @HEPennypack1 asked 10 great questions for Christians/theists to think about! @BraxHunter gave some answers that I found to be excellent, even if I'd answer others slightly differently. I encourage you to engage with their channels!.

Hebrews 2:17.For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.

Friendly reminder that there are no good reasons to date the Synoptic Gospels after 70AD. Presupposing naturalism is not an argument.

Here is another helpful tip to improve online discourse: If someone disagrees with you, it is not necessarily because they misunderstand your position. In other words, it is possible for people to understand your position and still disagree with it.

Some are misunderstanding this thread and saying, "This is a caricature! This isn't why we need the Magisterium!". This thread isn't for you then. I say who it's for in the first post. Protestants like myself hear this claim ALL THE TIME! If you don't make it, good for you.

Here's a thought experiment for my Catholic friends who say, "Under Protestantism, there is no way to know which doctrines, interpretations, etc. are correct. ". Let's assume you're not Catholic for a second. You're outside. Now, how can you discern the truth of Catholicism?. 1/.

Hopefully what this thread has shown to those who make this claim is that the existence of disagreements among Christians is not a reason to join ANY particular tradition. And until someone provides a non-circular reason why it is, we can agree to disagree ;). 7/7.

But once you do this, I as a Protestant (and all others, for that matter) can now know correct doctrines from the Bible/church fathers. And now we are left with all our disagreements in Protestantism and otherwise, which is the primary reason most become RC. 6/.

Or, you can take the only logically valid escape, which is to abandon the claim altogether. Texts can be read and the meaning in them known by the reader. Reject the post-modernist thesis. It is both false and unlivable. 5/.

You've set up an argument that you can only defend circularly - very common problem in RC apologetics. But what alternatives are left? You can persist and say: "I am going to circularly defend this unjustified claim" (since circular reasoning doesn't provide justification). 4/.

Some will answer: Divine faith is something we know with certainty. God implants the truth of Catholicism in us, and we can not be wrong about it. But notice that this is viciously circular - your conclusion must be true for the argument to work. This is unworkable. 3/.

Remember: You can not read the Bible and know that the Catholic doctrines are correct. You can not read the church fathers and know you're interpreting them correctly. Your argument has made it impossible to know Catholicism is true. 2/.
