The DfE has said 'sector consensus' is needed to reform RE. This piece demonstrates why achieving this will be so difficult. It's basically a call to use the subject for confessional instruction. Good character needs critical thinking, not Christian conditioning.
What is religious education for? 🏫 Following recommendations to include #RE in the National Curriculum, @EsmeLKPartridge reflects on the purpose of RE, moral formation, and how schools might balance pluralism with meaningful engagement.

I've asked my MP to support removing the automatic right for 26 bishops to sit in the #HouseOfLords. The bishops' bench is unfair, undemocratic and unjustifiable. Time to go! https://t.co/1zmIuXFk8z via @NatSecSoc

'Misogyny is undeniably present in too many religious charities—and is, in effect, being subsidised by public funds via tax breaks and sometimes Gift Aid,' says Megan Manson of the National Secular Society. @NatSecSoc

If the PM is worried about cohesion, perhaps he should consider stopping the state directly funding religious, racial, and socio-economic segregation by abolishing faith schools👇 https://t.co/Fikmlgj55p

Prime Minister Keir Starmer tells church leaders he’s more worried about national cohesion than ever before, urging unity during Interfaith Week.

This is good news- and a reminder that a substantial majority of parents are opposed to faith schools. All such schools should start to de-segregate their intake, a first step would be a maximum of 50% of a single faith within 4years
Plans to merge a nonreligious school into a Church of England school, with the latter's faith character retained, have been cancelled after a survey of parents found nearly 95% would have sent their child to another school if the merger went ahead. https://t.co/i71vPM6D7L

We think Westminster needs to do similar - it needs to remove the 26 seats automatically reserved for Church of England bishops. Please write to your MP and tell them to work to abolish the bishops' bench. 👇

What this @BBCNews story fails to mention is this scheme is the notorious 'Operation Christmas Child' project of Samaritan's Purse, an evangelical Christian charity which uses these boxes to try and convert vulnerable children. https://t.co/MuxxvZJJ3q

New Ofsted figures reveal a third of independent faith schools it inspected did not meet standards this year. We know many such schools keep on failing because they put religious dogma ahead of children's needs. We can't keep turning a blind eye to this.

Isle of Man's upper house has just passed a bill to strip the vote of the CofE bishop given an automatic seat. A landmark moment for IoM with implications for Westminster. There's no justification for giving clerics ex officio seats – time for them to go. https://t.co/CtbE52Cy7n
