The number of small vessel collisions in the Greater Male' region have continued to increase over the past several years, with several unfortunately being fatal. This animation is a good indication of why that is. The increased urbanisation over the past 50 years with sea
As part of our ongoing timelapse series with @ncap_uk we’re excited to share a striking side-by-side of the Greater Malé region—capturing 56 years of transformation, from 1969 to 2025. 🌍✨ Here’s what the images reveal: 🏗️ A threefold expansion of the airport runway 🌊 Major

It's been a week since we deployed the #sensors at Kendhikulhudhoo. What is the data saying? 4pm is the ideal time for a relaxing swim, based on sea surface #temperature measured at 1m depth
In the process of deploying #instruments and carrying out field surveys in #Kendhikulhudhoo. The data will be used to validate observations from #multispectral and #hyperspectral satellite data

The changes observed in #Addu show a very island-centric development approach. 1- The islands have an interconnected road network but we still observe three small #harbours on each #island, similar to what would be observed on disconnected and separate islands. 2- The
As part of the Maldives Space Research Organisation’s timelapse series with National Collection of Aerial Photography (NCAP), we turn our lens to Addu Atoll — the Maldives’ southernmost atoll, where Gan once served as a base for the British Royal Air Force. 🛰️Satellite imagery

The full study on data management has been published. The study attempts to understand why the #environmental #data management landscape in #Maldives is so #fragmented, and does so by evaluating data management principles from policy, implementation, and operational
One of the biggest #challenges for #research in #Maldives is that though there are numerous studies and projects on our #environment, the #data is never available. My co-authors and I have tried to understand why this is. We have summarized our findings into a #policy brief on

The successful pilot has paved the way for ELTRES receivers to be deployed on a national-scale. This will be a first step towards implementation of several #operational use cases including real-time #environmental #monitoring using low-cost, easy-to-maintain, #IoT sensors
🏝️🌊 How do you monitor a 1 million km² ocean territory—across open seas, coral reefs, and remote islands? In February 2025, we tested a game-changing IoT pilot with @sony and @axelspace near Kaashidhoo Island, using scalable, space-integrated ELTRES sensors. 📶 The result?

This image fascinates me! We see an explosion of #seagrass which completely changes the existing #ecosystem. It is no wonder that residents on #islands where this happens sees seagrass as a problem. So is it okay to remove this seagrass? Are they an #invasive species? Does this
