After a nine day period of temperatures in the teens and colder, our region will return to afternoon temperatures reaching the 20s. Even still these values will be nearly 10 degrees below early February normal.

It will be bitterly cold again tonight. The coldest temperatures (5 below to 15 below zero) will be east of Lake Ontario. Elsewhere expect lows mainly in the single digits above zero, with readings a bit colder in the Southern Tier, and a little warmer near Lake Ontario.

Northwest flow of cold air over Lake Ontario today will yield a few fluffy inches of snow along the shoreline, with an inch or less farther inland. Activity diminishes through the afternoon hours.

Through the month of February below normal temperatures are favored.

Lake effect snow will continue this afternoon through tonight south of Lake Ontario, with additional accumulations of 1-4" expected, highest amounts from Niagara County east to Wayne County...highly localized areas may see higher amounts than forecast on the current map.

Persistent arctic air flow will be upon us this weekend with afternoon temperatures some 15 to 20 degrees below normal. Some modest relief next week with multiple days reaching into the 20s, though these values will still be well below normal.

Multiple bands of lake effect snow will continue south of Lake Ontario this morning, though accumulations will be minor.

Bitterly to dangerously cold wind chills will continue through Saturday morning. Cold Weather Advisories are in effect for Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany, and Lewis counties through 11 AM Saturday.

Lake effect snow will continue through tonight south and southeast of Lake Ontario, with localized additional accumulations of 3-6" expected. East of Lake Erie only minor snowfall is expected.

Extreme Cold Warnings and Cold Weather Advisories are in effect for all of western and north central New York tonight through Friday morning. Dangerous wind chills of 15 below to 24 below zero across western New York, with 25 to 35 below zero across the North Country.

Lake effect snow has rapidly developed across the Niagara Frontier this morning. Snow bands will oscillate across the region through this evening. Expect rapidly changing road conditions and visibilities. Take it slow!

A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for all of western and north central New York from 7 PM tonight through 10 am Friday. Dangerous wind chills of 15 below to 20 below are expected across western New York and as cold as 30 below across north central New York. #nywx

A slow-moving lake snow band has drifted a bit further south and stalled across the city of Buffalo and the central/eastern suburbs, and will wobble in place through mid-evening before weakening. If driving, expect rapidly changing road conditions and visibilities. Take it slow!

A band of lake effect snow and additional blowing of the pre-existing snowpack northeast of Lake Erie will create locally hazardous travel conditions through this evening. Be prepared for sharply reduced visibilities and deteriorated road conditions in the area.

Another bitterly cold start to the day, with wind chill values well below zero for our region this morning. Lake effect snow will lift northward towards Watertown today, before settling southward towards Oswego County tonight.

A band of heavy lake effect snow has developed over the Rochester area. This band will drift east over the next few hours and produce a quick few inches of accumulation. Late night travelers should be prepared for very poor visibility and snow covered roads. #nywx

Snowfall tonight will be greatest off Lake Ontario. While snow amounts will be light east of Lake Erie, the added gusty winds and blowing snow will lead to snow covered roads in open spots and very poor visibilities through this evening.

A band of heavy lake effect snow across Grand Island and the western Northtowns, will move southeast through the City of Buffalo and the metro area over the next hour or so. Snowfall amounts of an inch are expected. Be aware of rapidly changing conditions and take it slow!
