After a nine day period of temperatures in the teens and colder, our region will return to afternoon temperatures reaching the 20s. Even still these values will be nearly 10 degrees below early February normal.

It will be bitterly cold again tonight. The coldest temperatures (5 below to 15 below zero) will be east of Lake Ontario. Elsewhere expect lows mainly in the single digits above zero, with readings a bit colder in the Southern Tier, and a little warmer near Lake Ontario.

Northwest flow of cold air over Lake Ontario today will yield a few fluffy inches of snow along the shoreline, with an inch or less farther inland. Activity diminishes through the afternoon hours.

Lake effect snow will continue this afternoon through tonight south of Lake Ontario, with additional accumulations of 1-4" expected, highest amounts from Niagara County east to Wayne County...highly localized areas may see higher amounts than forecast on the current map.
