Inbox: Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike Rogers calling for federal intervention in city of Detroit like currently underway in Washington, D.C. "The Mayor of Detroit should be on the phone with the President now calling for backup," Rogers said in part.

By my rough count, there are a dozen current or former Michigan House members running for the Senate so far. All who have filed for Senate are running in strongly Democratic or Republican districts, except for one House member in the highly competitive 35th Senate District

Today, another campaign filing showed up on SOS website for another House member filing to run for the Senate: Rep. Jason Hoskins (D-Southfield) has filed to run for open 7th Senate District. He's seeking to replace term-limited Sen. Jeremy Moss, who's running for Congress

During this, there was a brief interlude from Sen. Ed McBroom, R-Vulcan, talking in favor of his Green Bay Packers ahead of this weekend's game vs the Lions. He donned the cheesehead hat he keeps at his desk at the end of his speech.

Senate is in session. They have just moved HB 4706, the House departmental budget bill passed last week, to Committee of the Whole. Basically sitting on the floor until/if they choose to move on it at some point

Senate is in session today & has a light agenda. Today is the first of 11 scheduled session days ahead of the budget deadline at the end of the month. The number of days can always change as we approach budget deadline depending on how negotiations go in the coming weeks..

I have to admit: saw the remake of The Toxic Avenger today & it's actually really good. The near constant tongue in cheek social commentary makes it even funnier. I give it two radioactive mutated thumbs up.

And I do believe this is first time I've heard people trying to start a Jared Goff chant at a Lugnuts game. It didn't catch on beyond few people

I was finally able to use a draft breaking alert I've been sitting on since May for today's announcement of the special election for the 35th Senate District. Well, had to be updated a little, but yeah.. https://t.co/GMTQaUUlL7

Breaking update: Gov. Whitmer announced at noon today the special election will take place with a primary in February 2026 and a general election in May 2026.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer filed on Thursday for summary disposition in a lawsuit filed against her, saying the plaintiffs lack standing to seek a judicial order compelling her to call a special election to fill the vacant 35th Senate District seat. https://t.co/AnMFQwW8hK
