The snowfall will be accompanied by strong classical northeasterly wind gusts that will likely break 80 km/h across much of the province, except along the coast of the south shore where gusts could very well crack 90-100 km/h. Power outages are likely. #NSStorm

Another round of early-week widespread snowfall accumulation is on the way, which is looking increasingly likely to dump 20-30cm of heavy & wet snowfall across the province beginning tomorrow morning in western areas before spreading eastwards throughout the day. #NSStorm

Another Monday, another storm for Nova Scotia! With wet snow and high winds expected tomorrow, our crews are already on the move, staging equipment and positioning teams throughout the province to respond safely and quickly. 1/2

An intense line of thunderstorms are making their way across southern Ontario this evening into #London and #Kitchener, a very rare event practically unheard of for this time of the year. With temperatures hovering around freezing, thundersnow is likely in some areas. #ONwx

Wide swaths of snowfall have moved into much of Nova Scotia at this hour with heavier bands now heading onshore. Snowfall rates will intensify as we head further into the night, and paired with increasingly gusty winds is likely to result in power outages. #NSStorm

We know, it's not an ideal forecast, especially for a day out, but right now it's the best idea we have. As the system develops and draws closer, we're hoping to be able to paint a much better picture. For now, keep a very close eye on the forecast. Better to be safe than sorry!

As for western Nova Scotia including the Valley and the South Shore, it's pretty much a wild card. Even slight alterations in the storm's track will have huge consequences to the forecast, and anywhere from 10-25cm is possible except upwards of 30-40cm on the south shore.

Further west towards central Nova Scotia including the #Halifax metro is where forecast agreement does a nosedive. Despite that, we are fairly confident much of this area will snag at least 20cm, with higher totals likely in the city and along the coast.

For the previously mentioned regions in the east, widespread totals above 30cm look relatively likely. As the system departs, these areas will also be at the mercy of due onshore northerly winds which could lead to snow squalls, further upping totals.

That being said, we do expect the majority of the province to receive a good amount of snow, but the highest totals are likely to be along the Northumberland shore and in Cape Breton, especially around the Sydney metro. Totals of which let's get into:

For starters, we are still absolutely going to face impacts from this storm of some kind. The question, though, is how much and more importantly where exactly will be at risk. Guidance has shifted east since yesterday, sparing areas further west from the worst of it.

#NSStorm It's been quite the day when it comes to weather forecasting. In one of the worst consistency showings we have ever seen, forecast models appear to be unsure weather or not it's going to blizzard or flurry... one day out. Luckily, you have us! Here's what we know:

While losing power sucks, it's certainly preferrable to be safe at home rather than battling the storm outdoors like the brave men & women that work tirelessly to ensure Nova Scotians have their heat restored as soon as possible. Thank you, line workers! #NSStorm
It wouldn't be a Nova Scotian winter without another snowstorm! Ahead of the upcoming high winds and heavy snowfall, we're activating our Emergency Operations Centre on Sunday, February 1 at noon. 1/2

Exact snowfall totals will be difficult to forecast for, especially since forecast models are not yet in widespread agreement, however we are fairly confident in totals crossing 25cm across much of the province. Areas further east, especially in CB, could cross 40+.

Winds will also begin ramping up during this period, with most areas at risk of gusts in excess of 70 km/h except along the Atlantic Coast and in Cape Breton where excess of 80-90 km/h is possible. This, combined with heavy snowfall, will lead to a *significant* outage risk.

Conditions will rapidly deteriorate as it nears midnight Monday, with large swaths of heavy, wet snow situating themselves over the province at intense rates that could reach up to 5cm/hr at times. #NSStorm
