I grew up in Africa , schooled in Africa , started my first non digital business in Africa ( which actually failed ). I know how hard it is for youth led startups in Africa to raise some sort Investment.Its what I advocate for .
I raised our first $1,000,000 after pitching to 44 Investors ans only three gave me the money. Let not your failure make you think what your doing is bad !! This is the gospel according to Nabuuma
I have been Invited to the UN General Assembly as a panelist on 20th sept as the UN will be launching a Women in Innovation Fund . Thank you UN, Reckitt , Kofi Annan Foudation and EcoBank for thinking about female founders .
At 22yrs,I started my first business this failed.23 yrs I started again this time using Tech and it has never reached profitability .At 25,I co-founded what has scaled & made profit. All am saying ;
1).Just keep trying dear African youth.
2). You can Start ,succeed at any age
I grew up from a family where you are supposed to accept what ever my father says regardless of the age.This day 2017,my parents gave me 2options;
1-Do medicine and practice
2- Continue with my "sick startup"& l be on my own.
I opted 4 option 2.Thats why I say iam self made
Few months back we opened our small office in Lille and it worked fairly well . Friday this week we shall have our operation extended to Paris and more two two cities . Our Paris office will the biggest Europe just like Dubai in middle East and Nairobi in Africa.

2023 the
@forbesafrica
recognized me for the second time in a period of 2 years .First was in 2020 when I become the first Ugandan under 30 to be on the magazine’s under 30 cover page . 2023
@LWSummit
named me youth icon award winner
We coming for big boys list soon 😂😂
I had dreams to run a company that can employ atleast 8 people & we just hired MENA CEO (our 50th staff).Youth,we all have dreams which the world can't make sense of especially when they are still early but keep on,give it time ,hangout with like minded people. All will be well
I met Mr Johson on this day four years back & he ended up investing $90,000 after 7 months of friendship .He linked us to his friends to give us follow-up investment. Dear founders, it started with our willingness to keep Johnson updated on our progress.
I & My team were in Uganda October a for some assignment & one roles I had was to check what was required to open a bank account from
@UBAUganda
. In the process,I misplaced my wallet .Mr Jimmy never took my small money ($8113 ) but ran after us and gave it to me .
I had to learn a very hard lesson that " No investor owes me any investment ."No one owes me any kind word." The world itself owes me nothing . This acts as my shock absorber each time I get a No from an investor.
Last week one of our companies ( cold chain technology) closed a series A round & when CEO sent me news "an agreement has been reached ",I remembered when we got 28 Investor Nos in a period of 51 days !!! I remembered telling them how I was giving up
Guys don't give up .
I have visited more than 17 countries in Africa , I know the about something called SDGs but I have a strong feeling that unless the young people come out of poverty then it’s so hard to realize these targets .Let us work on how to help young people get capital .
As African startup owners , we need to start helping eachother !!If you have some investor introduction you can do for a brother or sister , Go on & do it !! If I know some scaleup program then it's should be my role to introduce someone!!! That's the real Africanicty
In other news , the food suppliers in Uganda can now go a head and sell their products on our our portal .All you need is ;
1)Be Legally registered
2)Agree to adhere to our Quality assurance standards
3) Agree our Payment on delivery, shipping, technology use terms .
This is a very personal Opinion !!! I still think that it would do more good if ; Govts in Africa look at Investors willing to invest in our local startups to for example build a factory than bringing on an Investor to build the same factory from somewhere in china .
When my company had just opened in UAE,we had fewer orders coming through our app & as a CEO I spent the entire 2 months making deliveries to which ever customer that could order first on a given day!!This gave confidence to our customers !How do you ensure customer confidence ?
You could have come with a friend from home but with different flights. His flight taking off before yours does not mean your's won't be called to the boarding gate .
Dear startup owner , don't hear your friends startups raising funds, scale and you panic .Its a matter of time
As we begin the week ;
Dear Young startup Owner from Africa .
The tribe you joined (Entrepreneurship) is full of background noise mostly from those who have never tried what you are running .Just don't mind the any noise !!Keep your eyes focused on where you are going
As I headed to the UK for the commonwealth youth leaders summit,I was asked for a comment on my recent success ;
1)
@forbesafrica
youth Icon award
2) My company being named a finalist by
@winfundNFT
I said"it should teach young Africans that no one has a right say u can't !
In 2023 I started a chase 4 for a financial partnership with a Swiss pharmaceutical company.December when we were signing an agreement,their CEO told me”I have been following you on LinkedIn 4 the last 6 months & I am impressed
Guys be mindful of what you post on Social media
Hi ;
if you are an Africa woman and you have an idea or business someone is giving some 5000USD to 500 women Just comment Yes , I will send this directly to your inbox
Deadline for application is 31st December 2023.
Our youth need to be told that joining politics is not bad but we can only have one president, one member of parliament for a given area!To me this is too competitive
Although it hard to run business ,we can have several millionaires running similar businesses . I am just saying
Hello Kigali, I'll be arriving this Wednesday. I will be there to represent my husband, who is launching his 20,000 solar-powered cold rooms for Africa program.
I met Jalia during the
@EO_GSEA
in Macau china 2019 Today she told me ; When strangers meet & opt to have sex,the first rounds are always protected but other rounds ,condoms are forgotten.She is testing a condom idea that changes colour incase one of the parties is HIV+
November 14th,I wil be joining other global leaders like
@MikeBloomberg
in Singapore for bloomberg new economy forum. As young founder,I always take pride in learning from experienced Entrepreneurs at the forum.Dear startup owner always get time to speak to those better than u
One day , I was on the Internet & I read about how small food retailers lacked a Pay later privilege that big food Cooperation enjoy . This is what forcesd me to start a B2B Buy Now & Pay later solution for food retailers!!! What made you start your company??
Each year I mentor 3 female startups mostly on how add basic AI in their work.2023 , I will mentor 4 female founders & this time around we shall have 7 days face to face sessions at our office in Delaware
Drop me your elevator pitch here after February I will select the 4
Me listening to some aspiring tech enterprenuer tell me how he thinks he will start the startup tomorrow and hit profitability in the next 365 days !! At this time I don't know if I should tell him the truth directly from the corners of startup life
Running a business regardless of the size comes with so many challenges but here is the solution I personally use in times of challenges !! Get a place where I can be alone , look at how I have come and tell myself , this not the time to give up .
He used to work with us in 2019.His chatbot allows salary earners not worry about their day 2 day expenses.
Before getting salary a worker can buy essentials(food,clothes, fuel) on credit via chatbot when salary comes in the amount pre-used is deducted.He raised $150k congs sir
I dream of an Africa where Women who talk about tech go on to run tech businesses!!!
I just don't like it seeing women speak good tech but when you ask them about their tech startups , they start speaking in tongues
We can't keep preaching what we don't practice
A lot of young people think they will start a business today, get investors tomorrow , become a unicorn the other day,exit the following week 😂😂 It does not work that way.I actually tell those around me that if you are too hungry for rapid success don’t join entrepreneurship .
Dear founder 2023 try the following starting now to:
1)Try finding active Investors( funding your sector & stage )
2)Try building networks
3)Make your pitch deck competitive
4)Expand your view on financing options
Today I some time with
@rigathi
the Vice President Kenya & I told him to inform the chief hustler
@WilliamsRuto
that I am the treasurer of the hustlers club.We talked about our next meeting in Nairobi .Food retailers in Kenya can now buy Now and pay later .
I wanted to be part of the class of young women that wake up every-day to work on something that can encourage the youth in Africa that anyone from anywhere can be someone as long as they work smart and extremely hard .
A friend told me ;
Billionaires hangout with Billionaires , Millionaires hangout with millionaires.
Dreaming alone can’t guarantee an invitation to such hangouts .You must work hard to be like them ,think like them , earn like them if they are to allow you to be in their circles
For people like us,we never had money,we never had support from those around us,we never had " connections".The only thing at hand was hope & belief that some years from then,something that looked like a multinational group of companies was going to be registered under our names
The first time I came to Tanzania,I saw alot of food retailers in Dar es salam preferring being paid through some sort of mobile wallet.This pushed us to invest in market analysis ! I can say data is on our side soon TZ food retailers will be able buy now pay later.
The real truth is we put aside our titles and joined the hustlers club .Every single day we wake up & hustle for survival .
If Dr, counsel , Prof., Tr , Eng. Etc can't put food on table please put it aside and move without it .
As the startup owner, I never overestimate being the first to do somethings but I also don't underestimate the importance of me being the best in the industry
Few months back I requested board to help four startups per year with some sort of media exposure & linkage to our friends who we think can invest in these startups .Today the board approved $ 85700 per year for five years for this cause . Eyes on 2023
Dear young Africans,we need to have a more realistic conversation about the future.With flying cars , self diving,cars that can lock you out because they are not serviced now on market,Advocating for more funding 4 tech startups in Africa should be priority for all of us.
I am not against against any country's youth program
I think it's not right to keep teaching African youth about how to become better citizens when you are teaching your youths how to build rockets and artificial intelligence
Our youth nowadays need more investors' deals
Dear young entrepreneurs , jumping from $0-$1M revenue takes some too much hard work and good 1-2.5 Years although social media makes it look like its some sort of bread . It is possible but be ready to invest time and resources !!
A friend has sent me a list of African angel investors in different sectors . If you wish to have the list just type YES ...Who knows the cold email to one of them can change the game for you
Dear young African aspiring digital business owners , the other day you said you were to start yesterday , it came and passed , then you said today , it came and it almost ending . Please don't push any longer .
Years ago , I raised $75000 &I was added to an online club of founders .
I was then asked how much I had raised .From that day I was given title “leader of small startups “😂in a group
It was embarrassing but pushed me to be like them
Some times you need to be provoked
If you have friends who are founders , please check on them ,we already entered the most stressing days of the month .
A special How are you to you if your major problem now is “The Month is ending “ &the money on the account can’t pay 1/2 salary to all workers.
All will be well
Now that I have some breathing space ,I will respond to everyone who sent me media interview , twitter space requests . I hope God will give me the grace to answer all the requests from July to now .
We did not wait :
1. To Finish medical school
2. To get "connections "
3 .To grow up
4. To get someone to invest
Opposition from my parents,bad energy from peers could never stop the desire to be a founder of multinational company by 2022. We knew one day all will be well
My friend just told me “ If you are building a tower , only give your ears to those bringing sand to you NOT those who are telling you to get down the building ladder “ startup life is some lonely journey but keep on !!
I am headed for Dubai & I will together with our UAE team take part in delivering of orders made through our Chatbot Starting 27th March 2023
#Ramadankareem
to all those who trust us with their food merchandise every single day .
3 years back,I used to do my Investor pitching via a mobile, I never had the modern Tele conferencing equipment I have today but one thing was with me , I knew come rain , snow , sunshine I was building something beyond what I was seeing then . Guys start with what u have
From Kampala we headed to South Korea Seoul where we shall be speaking about our VR+ Tele medicine vision .
On the important note ,
-Our cancer center (hub) in Uganda is taking shape
- Our chatbot will be open for Ugandan doctors to register & work with us ( Two weeks from now
Days back I spoke to a lady passing through the same persecution I endured since 2018.I told her “ there are so many countries where U can sell your services . Life first, when the turbulence comes to an end you will go back to your home country” I mean U can make it elsewhere
As a small girl from masaka uganda ,3rd year a medical student I got an invitation from one the prominent USA billionaire & asked me"Young girl what can I do for you?"I said I don't want your money but just teach me on how to make a billion USD.What would u ask him if he asked U
I know how hard it can be to raise some investment for your startup .This is harder for the female tech entrepreneurs in Africa .
This should not lead you into temptation of giving up!!
Look out 4 those who have raised money& be friends after some time ask 4 recommendations
I was asked to mention that one thing that has ever happened to me and changed my entire startup game
The day when
@MikeBloomberg
and
@BBGNewEconomy
announced me a Bloomberg new economy catalyst . This changed everything in my life
As a hustler , you need get time and look back at how far you have come !!! look back at the days when it was you Vs the world !!! I swear this will give you reason not to give-up
Look at days when everyone was expecting you to close shop like in 6 hours 😂😂
Days back,as I headed to Kigali , I passed home (kampala )briefly to check on the progress of the cancer center we are setting up there !!! . I was happy to see that over 65% of the work is already completed.
As long as you are in Africa , we are coming.
#cancer
#screening
