's Performance Tracker found that public services are in a fragile state with no fat to trim. Rushing cuts will only make things worse
NEW REPORT: By 2025, public services wonโt have returned to pre-pandemic performance, which in most cases was already worse than in 2010 when the Conservatives came to power
It's been a lost decade for public services
There's no meaningful fat to cut ๐งต
The Chancellor said he would announce a 'fully costed' plan on 31 October. Hopefully that just means setting out broad spending plans, because there's just no way that you can responsibly plan detailed cuts to public services in two weeks

Total rubbish, there are plenty of people with no producer interests that could lead and trim down the public sector, and without a 'programme manager' needed.

Canโt argue with that statement. Very fragile. We must balance interventions against the here and now challenge - addressing the supply of services, alongside the longer term vision - addressing and reducing demand, by focusing on what is creating it!

Every single D&I officer (with their attendant departments & consultants) is fat. Putrid fat. Until all such bloat has been excised, donโt tell us there no fat. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

These so-called analyses rely hugely on subjective opinions. None ever contains a column saying "scope for self-improvement", because that would just be silly. The answer always: more money. Spend time inside the public sector: you'll see some diligence, but much more coasting.
