Thank you, @FirstLadyNJ for hosting this conversation. Together we can continue to make changes to create a better future for New Jersey's mothers and babies.
In just 2.5 years, we’ve made great strides to improve maternal and infant health outcomes in NJ. While we still have more work ahead of us, we are setting a standard for care that will serve as a national model.

.@Speight4NJ @AswTucker and I hosted a prenatal summit two years in a row, with featured speakers like @FirstLadyNJ & @LtGovOliver. The event was so successful &so many women-from expecting mothers to those with children up to age 3-left feeling restored, confident, & informed.
Q11: Before we close, let’s put a spotlight on your best practices. Tell us about a program of yours that has shown to improve outcomes for mothers and babies of color! #NurtureNJ #HealthEquityNJ.

As an expecting Black mother & legislator, I have used my voice & lens to bring light to the inequities that exist in the healthcare community. Expecting Black mothers' voices are pushed to the side during delivery & leading up to. I use this lens to legislate on their behalf.
Q9: #COVID19 has exacerbated existing health inequities, leading to significant disparities in COVID-19-related health outcomes for Black communities. How is your organization working to address these inequities? #NurtureNJ #HealthEquityNJ.

One major social determinant of health is housing. Housing determines access to education, childcare resources, &more that impact daily life. That is why I proposed "The People's bill," A-4034, to help families in need of housing assistance in the midst of the #COVID19 pandemic.
Q7: Let’s talk social determinants of health—transportation, access to health insurance, child care, & more. How is your org tackling SDOH to better support the health of NJ’s mothers and babies? #HealthEquityNJ.

We amplify the work of people of color by demanding #diversity and #inclusion in all fronts because, without these elements, we can never fully capture the needs of the community or best understand how to create solutions through policy. #NurtureNJ #HealthEquityNJ.
Q6: What steps has your organization taken to amplify the work of people of color? #NurtureNJ #HealthEquityNJ.

Through the introduction of powerful pieces of legislation like Bill A-3115, which was signed into law by the Governor in 2019, we can work to eliminate implicit bias, but there is certainly more work to be done. #NurtureNJ #HealthEquityNJ.
Q5: What steps has your organization taken to address systemic racism and implicit bias? #NurtureNJ #HealthEquityNJ.

There are many things we can do, but first, we must #listen. That is why I introduced the “Listening to Mothers Survey Act” (A-1837) requiring the NJDOH to establish a survey to evaluate and improve maternity care access and services across the board. #HealthEquityNJ #NurtureNJ.
Q3: New Jersey has among the worst maternal and infant health disparities in the country. From your perspective, how can we tackle systemic racism to improve maternal & infant health equity in NJ? #NurtureNJ #HealthEquityNJ.

Q2: We will keep working on maternal & infant health until New Jersey becomes the safest & most equitable place in the country to deliver & raise a baby. To the people you serve, what does that future look like? #NurtureNJ #HealthEquityNJ.
