In June, we hosted an RDN launch event in the North East and North Cumbria. Over 140 stakeholders from various sectors learned about our funding, our support, and research case studies. The feedback was very positive, with interest in making this an annual event.

Bringing research closer to communities makes it more convenient for patients to take part in trials and increases the diversity of participants who could potentially benefit from innovations in healthcare, moving care from hospitals into local, familiar environments.

This has enabled the site to begin actively delivering research and providing information about the benefits of taking part in research with an under-served community. With RDN support, the practice has set-up and opened 4 new studies, and reopened a previously paused study.

Lawrence Hill Health Centre is in an area of high socio-economic deprivation within Bristol and is new to delivering research. They received support from the RDN to become research active, with the help of a research champion.

This year, 20 Primary Care Research Hubs launched across the North West, an initiative to embed research within communities and support participation in research. This ranges from light-touch research to commercial trials, reducing health inequalities by reaching more people.
