This highlights an important truth: children are not just bystanders - they are directly affected and need justice, recognition, protection and support. #AbuseAwareness #TraumaInformed #DomesticAbuse

Justice after childhood abuse looks different for different people. Survivors told us they want to be believed, to feel safe, to have choices and to protect others - alongside any formal legal outcomes. #TraumaInformedCare #SurvivorVoices #SupportSurvivors

Many survivors of abuse say that loneliness is one of the hardest parts of recovery. But with the right support and small, gentle steps, survivors can rebuild safe and meaningful connections. #AbuseRecovery #SurvivorSupport #MentalHealth

Many survivors of childhood abuse are made the ‘scapegoat’ in their families. Survivors may face constant criticism, exclusion or be told they are the cause of tension. This is a form of abuse and it does not reflect your worth.

When a survivor shares their story, the most powerful thing you can do is listen. Survivors don’t always need advice or solutions. They need to be heard, believed and supported. You don’t need all the answers. Your presence and compassion are enough.

1 in 6 men experience sexual abuse in childhood. Yet only a small number reach out for support. Stigma, shame and harmful myths about masculinity can make it harder for men to speak out. NAPAC offers free, confidential support to all survivors of childhood abuse, including men.

'It is shocking, but weirdly, I feel hope because the more numbers we see, the more we know people are speaking out and talking about the abuse' Chief Executive at NAPAC @KiwiGabrielle speaks to Sky News about the rise in child-on-child sexual abuse https://t.co/0gGe2OK5Ha

Healing from childhood abuse can feel isolating. But connection makes a difference. Peer support means connecting with others who have lived through similar experiences.

Trauma doesn’t just affect individuals, it shapes the way they see the world, relate to others and respond to stress. Trauma-informed practice is about recognising these impacts and creating safer, more supportive environments where people feel seen and understood.

Survivors often carry misplaced guilt for distancing themselves from family members or going no-contact. The responsibility lies with those who crossed your boundaries and engaged in behaviours you cannot tolerate, not with you for protecting yourself by setting those boundaries.

On our support line, we often hear how helpful therapy can be. But sometimes, it doesn’t feel that way. And that’s okay. Remember: feeling stuck at times is part of the journey, not a failure. Every step, however small, is part of your healing.

The government will be sending an emergency alert to all mobile phones in the UK on Sunday 7 September at 3pm as a test of the system. The Ministry of Justice is aware of potential risks for survivors and has provided guidance for those who may need to opt out of the alerts.
