It’s wild to me how folks are just willing to die on the hill of “Independent Reading is not a good use of classroom time” when the state thought it was important enough to include it in the standards and name it one of their FOUNDATIONAL skills.

Highlight of my day was being gleefully informed several times by a student that he was now “a grown man” and I have never seen such pure, unbridled, child-like joy about turning 18. Precious child, I hope all of your adulthood is filled with this type of happiness.
